    I think one of the current theories is that the big bang formed this universe which is part of
    and infinite multiverse. I dunno , the theory seems to change every week, they're making it up
    as they go along IMO.

    These sorts of everything-could-exist proposals for an infinite universe spring from a fundamental
    misunderstanding of infinity. Just because something is infinite DOES NOT mean that all
    possibilities will exist in it. For example, there are an infinite number of fractions between
    the numbers 0 and 1 but nowhere in that infinite list will you find the number 1.1. Similarly if this universe is infinite it does
    not mean that everything (eg you , me , your aunt etc) occurs in infinite amounts simply because there are an INFINITE number of possible
    alternatives that are not like us. Infinity confuses most people and in this case obviously even some scientists.

    Answer? Nothing. Its simply syntactical differences. I think you've just proved that
    you know nothing about real OOP though given that your gave your examples in VB , why arn't I too
    surprised... Hmm , I wonder...

    If it works for him why should he change? He's probably fairly old and if that is the case
    do you really think he gives a rats arse about some point and drool XP interface that is
    designed to appeal to adolescents and women (IMO)? This guy obviously uses his computer as
    a tool , not as some kind of coffee table show piece to impress Mr & Mrs Snob.

    Nice to see journos getting there facts straight again. Not. It seems that the article writer
    thinks that email in 1994 was in some sort of different form. Umm what form exactly? Ok it
    was unlikely but not impossible to get HTML mail and attachments back then but I can't think of
    anything else. Or maybe the jorno means that 1994 was before an AOLuser CD dropped through his letterbox.

    If only there sites like that. I'm a unix fan but one thing that *really* p*sses me off about the
    unix world is that your somehow just expected to *know* how to get something to work and if
    you don't you just get the standard issue RTFM response when you seek advice. Of course that
    would be great if the man and help pages weren't generally written in an obscure dialect of
    Ancient Geek and only intelligable by their original authors and people whacked out on LSD.

    I don't know about the other tech problems you mentioned but surely the easiest way to deal
    with the high alpha emissions degrading surrounding materials is to make the polonium
    powerpack with a shield covering that will be disposed of along with the powerpack when the useful
    power is all used up. It won't matter (as far as the rifle user is concerned) what state the shielding is in if
    he's going to bin it anyway.

    What about compress? Or even good old "compact". Ah I remember the days when we had 20% compression
    and were glad of it and some of the old timers could have been confused with non living processes
    even without the help of gzip anyway!

    64 bit server computing has been around for at least a decade. I was using a 64 bit DEC alpha
    box back in 1994. Why is it that whenever middle aged or even old technology appears on in the PC
    world its suddenly a Big Deal? I realise that Joe Sixpack won't have ever heard of 64bit (or probably even be able to spell it)
    but surely the more technologically savvy types who read this site should know better?

    Where did you think up this lame analogy with crack dealers?? A crack dealer sells poison
    to line his own pockets so it doesn't matter how little they sell its just as wrong. However
    someone uses a car for day to day life usually because they have no choice so using the car
    itself is not wrong but its far better to use a car that uses less fuel since thats less worse
    for the enviroment.

    And so what if SUVs can run on alternate fuels? I don't see any out there at the moment and
    anyway , an SUV that uses 2x as much gasoline as a compact will use 2x as much rape seel oil or methanol etc etc which still causes 2x as much
    C02. This is fairly simple stuff , if you have a problem grasping it I suggest you go back to school.

    Any car that uses less fuel is better from an enviromental point of view compared to one
    that uses more , so yes it DOES make a difference that SUVs use twice as much fuel as compact cars.
    Morality is a value judgement, CO2 output is basic physics so your analogy is utterly bogus.

    Sparc or PA-RISC or PowerPC assembly code to check the optimisation levels. Not!
    You ever tried to code in RISC assembler?? It aint quit the walk in the park that x86 assembler is by comparison!

    I have some ideas but they're generally not that good compared to ideas I've seen from other people
    one being a circular tree type structure denoting a file system which could be drilled down into.
    Unfortunately I've long since lost the link but I'm sure its around on google somewhere.

    Go back to 1984 and throw a business person whose used to mainframe character based output in front
    of a Mac and you'd probably get the same result. Thats no argument for not evolving something.
    Perhaps we should still be using DOS boxes and ksh for doing everything?
    And the WIMP interface will go precisely nowhere if everyone has the same "well , what else can we do with it" attitude.
    I can't believe all the free software geeks on here truly believe that microsoft has got it so
    spot on that the best they can do in response is just to copy them. Thats just pathetic.

    Where is the originality in desktop enviroments??

    With the exception of a few window managers such as Enlightenment the average unix desktop today just seems to be a clone (and frankly)
    a poor one at that) of Windows.
    Theres so much potential with the free software movement for inventiveness so why are people just
    re-inventing the wheel?? For heavens sake some up with some new and interesting paradigms for the desktop!
