The BBS world seems like a lifetime ago. For over two years I ran the european regional mail and echomail hub for the GT Power network from a 286 that buzzed away at the end of my bed.
I dreamed of a day when everybody could use email to talk to not only geeks, but also friends and relatives.
Now we have the day. The PC doesn't buzz at the end of my bed anymore, but instead I'm plagued by spam and spy-ware. My illusions are shattered.
On the plus side, I was still developing utilities back then, primarily for the network. Probably some of the most fun I've ever had. TO my surprise much of the code that I wrote can still be found in old archives, although most of it just seems to bomb out with a Runtime error 002 nowadays.
It will be the same response that Microsoft always seen to get when they introduce something like this... lots of people complaining that they're not doing it, then they build something and lots of people complain that they've made a change.
"Microsoft need to do something about security" - Microsoft release XPSP2 - "Microsoft changed a bunch of securty settings and now my badly written app does not work anymore".
Without either a digital output for 5.1 or 7.1 sound and a the ability to download and reply HIGH resolution movies this just isn't going to work.
I have to hope that they push a new generation of hardware if they ever want to make this service interesting.
... and that it only has the faetures of a Series 1 TiVo.
It works well too... although the only supported cards at the moment are "over the air" HD. Nothing for cable or satellite.
Wrong. 2005 does...
You can work that out from the address that is being POKED.
My 16k Speccy still worked... it came down from the Attic about 3 months ago, I was amazed.
:(
I don't have a cassette player that I can plug in to load any games though.
JET SET WILLY LIVES FOREVER.

so you're advocating cheaper PCs as the answer to the industries ills... you're the second person to do that tis week.
You might be onto something.
no, I mean runtime error 002... directory not found. I'm guessing that I was a lousy developer.

WiX was the first, WTL came later.
I can either invest in lawyers to investigate every claim, or drop a few customers with an "ask no questions" policy.
Which is easier for the smaller ISP to administer and live by?
I'm not saying it's right, we're just in an odd climate around digital rights at the moment.
... just needed hard drives, Government budgets are tight.
Not everything is a conspiracy.
Didn't Tom Watson (founder of IBM) once claim that the world only needed 5 computers, and he was the man to build them?

but the masses can buy buy a $39 DVD player and enjoy much better quality... time will tell.

I've been using Vonage for over a year now, and it's excellent... no loss in quality, 911 works etc.etc...
I have my cable modem and vonage box on a cheap UPS in case of power loss. Never seen it kick in though.
You could read the OSRM report on the topic...

If Gates has not given to charity then where did the $7.3bn in grants come from that his foundation has issued to date?

With this single decision AOL will disenfranchise a whole underclass of society.
So at 2.09 a gallon (locally here in WA), and a guesstimate of 25 miles per gallon you will have made your money back in under 45k miles.
You don't have much room for growth in the stock though... 10x the current stock price and you have a market cap the same as Microsoft.
Anybody thinking that Google is going to make them millionaires in the same way that Dell, Microsoft, Intel did is taking a huge gamble.
Clearly, you never read the article.

... people have spent years complaining about Microsoft security, Microsoft don't change anything because they claim it will break stuff.
Microsoft folds and implements some security features which inevitably break things... then everybody gets upset.
You can't have it both ways.
... inevitable that eventually all crypto will be broken? Surely it's only a matter of time.
