Yet another 10-letter word! Kick@$$! Now maybe we can get that 10 Letter Acrostic Puzzle solved without controversy!

Perhaps if (since these are supposed to be the public airwaves) one radio station per coverage area could be set aside by the FCC as a cooperative; a TRULY public station. Sort of like the organic grocery cooperative I belong to is run.

-) There'd be a membership fee for each household. Something nominal. The membership fee at my co-op is $100 lifetime.

-) Each member gets to vote for a board of directors who run the station (hires djs, purchases Cds and equipment, etc.)

This would ensure community ownership and operation of what is again, supposed to be the public airwaves. This would ensure what the community wants to hear would be played. This would ensure local interests would be met.

When I was using Napster, I was sharing and downloading live Grateful Dead and Black Crowes shows. Both are fully permissible by the bands and free of copyright. But since a few corporate f*cks were worried about 2% growth versus 3%, I lost the best trading source I ever had. (I never ONCE downloaded frickin' Metallica!)

Keep in mind, I STILL have a Sony (one of the companies always fighting to bring down Napster, Kazaa, etc.) CD-IT blank audio cassette, whose sole purpose was to tape from CDs. Trouble was, back then, CD-Burners weren't generally available and pretty much all the CDs there were to copy were copyrighted. Talk about hypocricy!

Of the best, are the DS9 relaunch, which continues the story of Deep Space Nine directly after the TV series ends, and Peter David's remarkable New Frontier series with it's Xenexian captain Mackenzie Calhoun. This series has proved, IMHO, to be one of the best out of all the Trek series.
