I wonder, did he try to back up his claim using the babel fish proof? I case you've forgotten, it goes like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that You exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. QED"
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
Yeah, nuclear appologists just love that xkcd chart. Unfortunately, it doesn't distinguish from external exposure of radiation and internal exposure. Internal exposure is far more serious.
No, actually it does. This is the statement from their web site: "This award is given to the programming language that gained most market share in 2011"
Tiobe generates the rating by the search results of google/bing, etc. So basically, it's just measuring how many web pages mention a particular language. It does *not* measure the actual usage of the language in applications.
if Kenya wants cheap electricity, then nuclear is the worst option. It only appears cheap because of massive government subsidies.
According to a report by the Union of Concerned Scientists: "Government subsidies to the nuclear power industry over the past fifty years have been so large in proportion to the value of the energy produced that in some cases it would have cost taxpayers less to simply buy kilowatts on the open market and give them away" http://www.ucsusa.org/nuclear_power/nuclear_power_and_global_warming/nuclear-power-subsidies-report.html
> Now you've got to solve the battery problem No, you don't. No batteries aren't needed for home solar power, as most homes are connected to the power grid. The just sell the excess power generated during the day and use grid power during the night.
to be more accurate, the reactors are still there, however what was once know as "the fuel rods" are now a melted pile of slag on the bottom of the containment structure.
Actaully, only 25% of the world supply of hard drives is made in Thailand. I wonder if things are being exaggerated a bit. Some of the factories are already back running again and I'm sure companies outside of Thailand have ramped up production to make up for the shortfall.
More importantly, there should be a performance per watt comparision. Having the fastest GPU is not worth much if your battery runs down after 2 minutes.
More interesting news is that Nvidia's next high end card will probably arrive in late 2012, or even 2013 - while AMD's high end card Tahiti is expected in January 2012.
ARM only will compete against Intel in cases where power consumption is more important than performance, i.e. netbooks and low power servers (read small market). Don't forget that a lot of apps are using SSE and x86 extensions will have to be rewritten to run on ARM.

Actually, yes. Part of the dust in your appartment comes from the concrete, some of which you are going to inhale inadvertantly.

yes, and people who's first computer is a laptop have no need for a tablet
> How does this differ from the subsidies given to green alternatives such as wind and solar?
they are much larger and more hidden

trampolines, plastic bow and arrows, etc. are deadly, but rifles and shotguns are okay for children?

Hurry - Slashdot pantomime audience

Yeah, right. Nobody plays games on a PC. That's totally unheard of.

They would notice once they tried to play any games or run any heavy apps like photoshop.

I can just imagine the practal jokes in that lab.
My god! the seal on the container has come undone - the virus has excaped!!
Ha - got you! that's just the box my lunch came in
Desktop share *was* shrinkinga couple of years ago, but it leveled off. It's now 50 -50
Very true - AMD compete well against Intel in entry-mid laptops.
Unfortunately, it's a rather narrow segment.
I read the article and thought it was pretty insightful. What is the problem exactly?
that was a typo, dude. doesn't mean my point is wrong
