(better formatted) What i need is a: small in size (smaller than the current CD), cheap as dirt, speedy, encased medium. And everybody needs to have one as well!
so far..
Zip, Jazz, LG-drive: not cheap. too rare. Minidisk: could have been!, but haven't seen any for pc's. likely incompatable, slow or whatever. CD: not encased/fragile, too big for real portability. floppy: too limited, frequently broken.
There is a huge market awaiting!!! But all i see is bigger and bigger / faster than fast.
There is more to succesfully succeed the floppy! Maybe USB-key-chains will fill up the nice.

IN fysics class i picked up the trick to compute the speed of light. the full method is a bit lenghty to explain, but the whole trick was the use of a rotating mirror....
One creates a semi circular mirror by glueing eg 40 small mirrors on a circular object. rotating this object (really fast, original example was driven by steam!) will project the image slightly displaced. put a shutter in front (also really fast, no problem) and the image will appear on a new location each time, till it reaches the end and will start at the beginning again. (this can be done in horizontal and vertical direction, like a CRT monitor)
wether to project on unique CMOS chips or on one very large CMOS is up to the tech guys.
But i think this kinda trick could make it possible to parralize the process needed for the data to get processed.
Some will argue that a heatspreader is only just another border for the heat to cross; that you can better have a top of the line copper heatsink directly on the die.
I am still amazed to see the cooling effort needed for todays processors. A simple aluminium block 3mm high and a little silent fan (still on my k6-2) is as obsolete as a T-ford. even for a videochip these day's!
I wouldn't mind having a desk PC with passive cooling, a very silent powersupply etc etc. And Yes I know, they exist. (Apple cube eg.) But they are nice market, it should be the norm for office pc's.
Come on!!, 3 GHz for two finger typing in Word(R) !!
Office Pc should be silent, cheap, hardly any maintenance. speed comes after that. Of course speed is important in servers and this CPU is all about speed. But also in servers; speed comes after durability, management functions and case hight
Anyone fancy a cpu with heatpipe mounted directly on the CPU, the dye enclosed directly in non conducting fluid ??

i know, i don't know how to Haiku.
but seriously. this is just about as dumb as requiering all your contacts to use a code word in the subject.
I can just see myself asking the realestate agent sending me a list of available buildings if he's any good at poetry......
As i recall,
the dolly method was using an ovum from a (logically) female and inject it with half of the DNA from another cell from the same female. thus creating an individual with exactly the same DNA as the original. thus cloning.
in what womb you place the egg is irrelevant. as long as the species is similar enough to not reject the egg. it may be possible an elephant is "close" enough.
I doubt the permafrost kept the mammoths well enough for ovaries to be kept in sufficient state. So finding an original egg/ovum is impossible.
The dolly method therefore is not possible.
it may be possible to use the outer shell of an elephant's egg and inject a double dose of single mammoths DNA's in it. if it works ??? (maybe even use a mixture of several mammoths DNA)
But this still is like breeding a rotweiler in a poodle.
Think of all those sociophobic nerds, like myself, among us!
I for one am glad to get some mail in my inbox, not having any friends.
Otherwise i could just close the box all together!
And yes, i believe my penis could be much longer! but i never got aroused by looking at pictures of pills.
Go to www.freesco.org or any other single floppy OSS based distro, get an old pc and two NIC's and go. $100 max.
The reason to use CISCO is ultimate durability, stability, service, configurability, speed etc etc.
hacking this thing together is gonna give none of the above!
In what setting am i gonna need a cheap ripoff of a professional router?
Those places that need the real thing usualy also deserve the real thing !
Maybe a dumb question.
But is it posible the cristal generating the Mhz's is also getting very cold, and therefore getting slower.
Maybe the BIOS thinks it is running at 4000 Mhz (simple multiplication), but in reality somewhat slower!!!
Doesn't refute the fact the scores are quite good. But at what actual frequency ??
But to what temperature can you cool the 3M fluo-stuff? I bet -192C would cause the whole set to freeze up, and bye bye to your heat conduction.!!
This cpu is so fast becauze its extremely cold. Not because it can get rid of the heat it produces!! that's a nice side-effect.
infinite clock speed would cause electrons to go back in time!!
mmmm. i can see the posibilities:
Windows 2050: this is the answer to a question you were about to ask.
(that is, if windows is still around then. More likely: Debian 4.0-testing: this is the.....)
i'm no lab technician, handling liquid CO2 is as extreme as i would get. ( i value my fingers alot, being in the medical business)
but seriously. is liquid nitrogen the ultimate "cool"?
Helium aparently is not an option.
Yeh, sure..
post the original finish article, that will help.
What would be the next step to more extreme cooling???
Like putting a vaccuum cleaner over the nitrogen to lower the surface pressure.
Any other gas around that's even cooler?
(imagine a beowolf cluster of these. (it had to be said!))
At this point they are only extreme cooling the CPU. Some of the "coolness" will also cool the MB a bit.
At what point will it be "necessary" to dip the total package of MB, memory, GPU and CPU in the nitrogen?
I mean, you would want to increase FSB and memory timings as well if you want to get half-decent Quake3 fps's scores.
Not for long!!!

Nothing seems to surprise me anymore in this world.
accounting tricks, monopolies, dirty tricks in business.
I guess we should have seen this kinda thing coming a long time ago.
In a way, anything imaginable in this line of business is probably also likely to happen.
whats next?:
The accused, Bill G., was caught red handed manipulating goverment studies concerning TCO and alternative OS's?
Oh wait......
welcome to the real world.
I remember a story of someone spinning a CD-ROM so fast it would explode. As a recall it wasn't that far away from 52x speed !
When will they start burning with multiple lasers simultaniously? Filling up a RW in 10 sec would really kill the floppy/ZIP media.
Seriously, the only reason you wan't this enourmous speed is for a casual back-up/copy of something too big to fit on a floppy.
A true back-up can last 200 second without being irritatingly slow.
You're collegue breathing over your shoulder waiting for that animation to be burned to disk is irritating after 10 seconds.
