The heat and pressure isn't actually harnested, we generate it by slamming two gold molecules together at a really high, relevistic speed. The idea is that we don't have to make high temperatures or pressures, but instead, have the molecules do it for us by colliding.

Well this is interesting. All the MSI file is is an archive file with a header that tells the Microsoft Installing Engine how to install this file. It's the equivalent of an RPM really, but only with a slightly more intutitive installing system.

And even with the MSI installing engine, would you really trust Microsoft integrating the engine into the operating system? Think about it, every time you connect to the internet it would look for patches, and automatically install them, breaking everything (including your face), while "patching" the operating system. And what if Microsoft turned even MORE evil and decided to install DRM software or spyware software without you even knowing? Or worse, sold out to Bonzi Buddy, and everyone got a furry little desktop companion... Truthfully there are things that need to be integrated into the operating system more than the current patching system, like antivirus software.

Sadly I'm not (dumb|smart) enough to (write|call) them on this one. Maybe its time for a patch system that simply removes the files they over wrote and stores the old ones somewhere.... that'd be really nice..

I just grasped the idea of window managers not too long ago, being new to linux, and I've already been through at least 20 trying to get the feel for one. Yes I do like the ability to customize to what ever you want, but there should be one, DEFAULT, good looking and very user friendly one out there. Maybe I'm crazy but that's one of the few things I like about windows: walk up to every windows machine and know exactly where to go to get what... just my 2 cents.

It crashes for me on certain common dialogs pretty often (like the drop down menu, but that's probably because nobody can code selects correctly). But that's off-topic. The question is when are they going to take the browser component of Mozilla Firebird and put it with the rest of the stuff that makes the old mozilla cool (Chatzilla namely)? If I had a browser like that, I'de never go back. Firebird is phenominally faster than Mozilla, I think it's time to switch the engines......

I think they count "Security Software" and companies like Symantec and Cisco Systems under this number, which greatly skews their numbers. Most great antivirus companies happen to be great computer repair companies and offer software that helps recover data from crashed hds, patches holes in operating systems, and otherwise keeps the computer clean. So yes, this number is greatly inflated, but getting a nice clean figure would be next to impossible otherwise.. plus it's good journalism to use big numbers, it attracts the eye and shocks the reader ;)

I want to be able to hear a song on the radio, then, before I forget it, download and have it! Novel idea indeed.

My next qualm is, all the cables in my room. Since my "media center" has at least 50 different cables running behind it (ethernet, coax for modem and tv, power, monitor, usb, etc), I'de love to get rid of at least some of them. And as bluetooth gets better, I can get rid of the cables for just about everything else (except power). I happen to have a nice and speedy 100MBit connection to my campus network, I'de hate to give that up for 20Mbps just because my wireless system won't let me reach those limits. (For all of you who say "100MBit is impossible in most cases, we use about a good 60Mbps on average, filesharing mostly.) But that's really the only reason for me to have wireless, so if it's not fast, it's wasted.
