Yes, that is exactly what I'm proposing. Having previously worked in the education system on the network end of things I'm well aware of the high prices bandwith like this demands. I would glady pay more in order to have more freedom and less regulation or capping of the bandwith.

Do you have any idea how much I pay for college? More than my old DSL bill, that's for damn sure. Hell, since I'm already thousands in debt, I would rather pay a little more tutition for unfettered access to a fat bandwith pipe (and I'm not even terribley into P2P, it's just a matter of principle).

Then, hold the book together with 3 binder rings (which you can buy separately at Staples), and use a document stand to hold the book up near you computer.

I suppose I'm glad that Apple isn't implementing DRM into their products, but this is simply a strategic business move, not some brave defense of our rights. Believe me, if they stood to benefit financially from DRM, it would be there (and very may well be in the future).

Before we all have to endure the ensuing "Apple cares about us!" and "Yay for Apple!" posts, just remember that Apple does not equal freedom. Free, open source software does.

Apple, Inc. does not care about you or I, in fact, no ones gives a shit about you or I, so take control yourself by using, developing for, and advancing Linux. If you don't like having others make your choices, start making your own.

Or better yet, how about the Experimental Rocket Propulsion Society, a bunch of Linux users who's entire project (unlike Carmack's extremely pricey endevours) are open source. You can check out their OpenVTVL software for "in-flight control of vertical takeoff vertical landing (VTVL) model aircraft using propellers or rocket motors in a differential-thrust configuration" at SourceForge as well as several cool videos of their launches at their homepage.

While the Radeon 9700 Pro might be cock of the walk at the moment, ATI has always had a horrible reputation with drivers, and it looks as though (while things are a bit better with the 9700) this trend will continue. Meanwhile, nVidia has consistently produced the most asskicking drivers around (for Windows anyway...). The NV30 might be a little late, but I'll take a proven track record of solid drivers in addition to powerful cards over anything ATI offers me. I hate to sound like an nVidia fanboy, but ATI has yet to prove themselves and I'm not willing to risk jumping ship just yet.

That being said, I'm extremely pleased to see ATI making the headway they are into the market. We haven't seen any competition since nVidia hit the scene and eventually blew 3dfx out of the water. Can ATI do the same to nVdia as they did to 3dfx? Maybe, but at least until then we've got some real competition. The downside of course, is that both companies may resort more and more to partnerships like this in lieu of real innovation and solid tech.
