The original 8150 Ideos sold at AU$199 here in Australia.
They've revamped it as the Ideos X1 and are selling it at AU$99 now (the specs are identical).

I bought one of the original 8150s, and have been very happy with it. As long as you keep an eye on the number of running apps, it's responsive enough and does as much as any other Froyo phone.
our government puts so many regulations and restrictions and outdated devices in most things they do that is will start well below it's potential and won't reach it's potential till it gets privatised.
Looks like current top offering will be 100/40, and that the initial limitation will be down to the end-user router. Hint; professional grade routers 'aint cheap.
"High - 100/40 Mbps - which means that the theoretical peak download speed is 100 Megabits per second, and the theoretical peak upload speed is 40 Megabits per second. This is a professional grade service, and you'll need a professional grade router to get the full benefit from it."
Proof there's more bullshit than truth being spouted on Slashdot.
Most Windows office laptops/desktops I see in the real world take several minutes to boot up enough to be usable. If you're keen enough to tune a computer to boot that fast, you're unlikely to be doing any real work with it.
I already have a tablet with HDMI output that I can plug into a big screen. It has a USB host mode, so I can connect it to 1TB+ worth of hard drive space, as well as full sized keyboards, mice (though I could equally do those with Bluetooth) etc.
The one I have now has a 1GHz dual core cpu and an OS that makes it feel instantly responsive. Later this year, quad core versions of the same CPU will be available.
What can your full-size box offer me that I don't already have?
Reviewers who have seen it seem quite impressed by Windows Phone 'Mango',
I've seen the usual fawning puff-pieces by those parts of the media whose business depends of Microsoft advertising dollars, but no genuine reviews showing anything Mango does better than iOS or Android.
Remember, just being better than the previous iteration isn't good enough in this market. It has to be better than the actual competition as well.
You can't, however, say the same for Microsoft. They had a user visible application level outage for the loss of a single location. That's a screw up and clearly shows why you shouldn't trust anything "business critical" to just one cloud.
Don't you mean 'you shouldn't trust anything "business critical" to Microsoft'?
I don't know about iSec, but McMillan/IDG have a long history of being cosy with Microsoft, both financially, with product placement, and with repeating Microsoft PR stories. It's not exactly secret - just Google it.
XDA member seshmaru posted a guide that explains how to flash Ubuntu onto Tegra 2 based devices. This is not just running it from an SD card but actually flashing this onto the nvflash of the device, so for those of you who were still wondering what use was the security key, this is one such reason. Keep in mind that this is not complete yet as the tools required to flash anything to nvflash are currently under development. However, if you wanted to have a more robust OS than Android, this is certainly something to keep your eye on.
With its low-end hardware, this thing barely qualifies as a smartphone.
Strange. You speak so confidently, and yet with such complete ignorance.
I actually have one of these phones. Based on available evidence, not only is it most certainly a smartphone, it's also considerably smarter than you.

Why theorise, it's not like you can't see the plans already?

what OS do you suppose Samsung et al are going to use?
Bada, MeeGo.
If you were HTC or Samsung, how comfortable would you be in using the OS of your competitor?
If you were Apple, how comfortable would you be using touchscreens, memory and other hardware from your competitor?
Google bought Motorola for the patent portfolio.
Mobility division also makes set top boxes. Patents may be part of the game, but they're not the only one.
Proof that disk speed is half the battle.

WHERE DO I APPLY ??
Just go to North Haverbrook.
More like 409 + 11 eater. It would explain a lot...
You want information, but you're too lazy to find it yourself.
Why the fake dismay? This IS Slashdot, after all.

comparably priced iPad,
There's your problem, right there. Try looking past your nose.

I can't really see what sort of functionality you need out of a tcp stack that wasn't already there.
Deep packet inspection and silent (hidden) report-to-base capabilities.
Nice comment, it expresses exactly why I dislike MS/Apple systems. Do you mind if I paraphrase it as my .sig?

I'm just waiting for someone to port Linux to it.
It's almost done

If you're really brave (and lucky) the workaround to get Karmic running on Tegra devices is here.

Google "Chromebook"
fact that Amazon advertises that they're paying 20% for each app in "Free App Of The Day" promotion
Where is this "fact" demonstrated? Can you link to where they advertise that?
FTFY
Can I have their iPod killer though
Ask Ballmer to squirt one over you.
Even more weirdly, I'll be celebrating my 50th birthday next month, own a Mercedes and live in a nice house, not a basement.
