considered a good business decision, or even sane?
It depends, if the cost to make it work for thoes 10% is greater then the expected profits from that 10% then it is a good business decision. Since you need WMP 9 to play the music, I would say it is a good decision. If you have access to WMP 9, you probably also have access to IE, so why code the site to work for mozilla/opera/safari when you don't know if those users can even buy the music?
"Apple enabled the desktop video revolution with its invention of FireWire. Today, Apple builds FireWire into every computer it sells, and it is a key component of Apple's 'digital hub' strategy." --Jon Rubinstein, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
They also got an emmy for firewire:
"Apple's FireWire technology has been honored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Apple received a 2001 Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for FireWire's material impact on the television industry."
It wouldn't be too hard to have the phone/pda default to.mobile for the TLD. For example if you type in slashdot to your phone it would try slashdot.mobile and if you wanted to go to www.slashdot.org you could type www.slashdot.org
Well it is probably more then just a potential working name if someone actually went through the trouble of making an image and changing the website. Of course, it doesn't mean that it will be the final name.
Whenever I look for quality in game design I always look to Zelda games. You can go anywhere and do stuff, so its freeform. But you have a predetermined quest, to get all the triforce pieces and beat ganon. Don't make a linear game in which the places you go and the things you do are in a predetermined order
That is funny, because I would consider Zelda linear. Sure in the last Zelda game, you could go to any island (well after you got the ship and sail) and explore different Island, but you had to do things in a specific order to beat the game (you couldn't beat the 2nd dungon with out beating the first one) The only games that I have played that are nonlinear are FPS and MMORPG. The game is going to have to be somewhat linear if you want the game developer to provided a good coherent story.
No, but American, German, and French men probably play the games in a similar way. Gender does not have anything to do with nationality, or the article for that matter. The fact that the sexes do thing differently was discovered thousands of years ago.
You need start hanging out in some different places or start having a higher opinion of the people you meet. Typically, most people treat you the way you treat them. I have found that most people are not selfish. I think it is pretty sad that you feel this way about your peers.
It's really sad that the publisher gets all the glory
But the publishers are usually risking more money and reputation then the developers. Publishers have spent many years and millions of dollars to build up their reputation and their supply channels. It is usually not possible for a small to medium size game development company to support a staff of sales people who can get the games on the store shelfs, marking people who will make a successful ad campaign along with paying for developers to write the game. As with any entertainment business, the gatekeepers, the ones who can get products to the people and the ones you can get people to want the product are the ones who are going to profit the most.
Maybe because the story is about horses, GPS, and getting more high tech with horse racing. It has nothing to do with Cars, speeding tickets, Ashcroft and Anti-Terror. As far as I can tell, the only thing your comment and the topic have in common is GPS. Don't bitch about mods, if you don't want to be modded of topic then stay on topic. And if it makes you feel better, if I had mod points, I would have modded it flamebait and not off topic.
Yeah but the difference is that SCO case is weak at best, the Linux powers that be know they have a good chance of beating the case. The Linux powers that be know they have no chance against a FAT patent lawsuit, and we be forced to comply with Microsoft and remove the code. Once the code is removed there wouldn't be anything for Microsoft to sue over or drag out.
Maybe you sould have made it clear in your post that it was "sarcastically funny, but honest criticism" instead of making it look like flamebait and tring to explain it is not after the fact. Bitching about how you got modded is lame.
eh? how does FAT = killing Linux? FAT isn't essential to the kernel or linux in general. Sure it might suck for the people who already have FAT partitions, but since the release of WinME hasn't Microsoft been makeing NTFS the default FS? Besides if there was a law suit the powers that be could probably have FAT removed from the kernel in less then an hour.
I doubt that. On most Mac boards when ever iTMS is mentions it is about 50/50, half love it the other half hate it because 1) Only in the US 2) Not enough indy labels 3) DRM .
Well if iTMS takes a huge percent of the online music sales market share and online music sales take off then iTMS being the gateway between people buying the music and people selling the music would make iTMS worth billions. I am guessing just breaking even or just making a small profit off of ipods is worth the short term gamble.
I don't think that counts. I doubt that network is going to accessable from the Internet. It doesn't even use the same protocol ("Internet protocol similar to what enables communications via Earth's Internet" from their site) I doubt NASA would risk having any of their probes DDOSed:)
I disagree, their business model could turn out to be a very important invention for the next 10-20 years. iTMS and other online music stores could fundamentally change a multi-billion dollar industry. I would diffinately say the year CDs came out they were the coolest invention of that year. As someone who has hundreds of cassette tapes, I was glad to see those dinosaurs disappear and I can't wait until the same thing happnes to CDs.
I under stand the server enviroment, but he said "At home, I have both an iMac and a beige G3. My beige G3 is not supported under 10.3" I doubt he is using his beige G3 as a Mission Critical server at home. Go back and reread my post and the parent, my post had nothing to do with servers.

In This June 2003 article, this company claims to make 1.5 Inch 1.5 GB drive for $65 in quantities of 10,000.
there is no mention of it at their official News Page or their product page for the iPod.
Yeah, probably because Macworld expo is on the 6th, I would expect and announcement then.

I can believe in God *and* evolution and the big bang etc. at the same time, you know.
Why not? God has to make the universe and humans some how.
I didnt say they were my complaints, I have bought quite a few songs from iTMS :)

It is not on the front page, the story is only on the apple section.
or "Well, since he didn't say I am guessing he meant this ." damn interruptions
Well, since the he did say I am guessing he ment this .

I always move my chair to the other side of the room when installing updates to prevent PEBKAC errors :)
