Because they are dropping hardware in 10.3, they need to support 10.2 indefinately.
lol you only paid $129 for 10.2, that doesn't entitle you to a life time of support. Granted, they should support the software for more then 1 year, but indefinately stupid.
Well, to be fair it isn't bait and switch, their advertizing is just misleading. They say it is quick (which is relative) and it uses firewire but they don't quote any actual speeds (hell, their website says it not even for sale yet). It is a good thing most decent stores have a 30 day return policy so you are not stuck with hardware that doesn't live up to expectations.
It may not make sense for the average user, however that doesn't make it a "pro" device. I would consider buying it if I had a new gen iPod. From what the Belkin rep said in the article it sure seemed like they are targeting average users. Belkin always targets the average user with their products, they do not have a high end or pro line of product. Sure, you could arugue that it is a product with out a big market (and it doesn't have one) but you posted gsfprez's comments about it being a poor "pro" device. I think a more interesting topic of conversation is when this does fail will it prevent other from making ipod add-ons?
but you are out and about and you want to copy stuff off your camera you can either use this which may take a little while and cost $500 + $100 for 40 gigs or you can buy a laptop and the USB adapter for $1000 + $20 (if you can even find a $1000 laptop with 40 gigs on it). Seems cheaper and more convient to me.
This is not a pro add-on. I am an average user and I don't think $99 is unreasonable, so don't tell me what I would or would not do. Please get off your high horse. Something like this would be perfect for a vacation, I could take as many pictures as I liked (with my $250 camera no less) and not have to carry around a dozen CF cards or bring my laptop. I don't know why you think only pros would run out of space or want to copy stuff to their ipod, looking at the reaction of other on/. not many other agree with you. Your first clue that this is not pro is that it is made by belkin, who only makes consumer electronic.
I don't see what the big deal is? This add-on isn't a "pro" add-on. Transfering 128megs in 6 mins sounds reasonable to me, that was about how long it takes to transfer the data off via the USB on my camera. It is a $100 add-on, what did you expect?
right, and they just anounced their 10,000,000 song sold, however I haven't heard if they have made any money off of it yet. Apple also has other ways of making money off of iTMS, like getting people to buy iPods and Apple computers, someone just selling used songs wont have that help.
One problem with this plan is that at $.99 new, that doesn't leave much in the way for profits. For example, if you buy "used" songs at $.33 each and sell them at $.66, that is only $.33 per song, and you still have to cover your overhead. You would probably only end up making a few cents profit per song. And if there are 2 or 3 different music services that you buy and sell used songs for that will just cause more headaches.
And good luck looking for the appropiate office, the idea of buying and reselling stuff was thought up long ago:)
Well there is no reason for apple to buy them back, since iTMS can already make infinite copies of each song there is no reason for them to buy back your copy. Now if it was easy to change ownership of the files, then a 3rd party might be interested in doing it.
When the agencies fail then you elect people who will fix the problem. That is the way government works. Having to depend on secretaries to police corporations is just stupid.
This has got to be one of the dumbest arguments ever. It is not the job of secretaries to protect the public from "scandalous corporate activities." We have government agencies that are supposed to be doing that.
Just because there are a few techno people are dishonest enough to steal money from the phone company doesn't mean that they are not innovative. Sure, it is better to have banking balances and such server side, it MUCH cheaper to store balances for small fee transactions on a smartcard. So for something like phones or subways, the amount of money that is saved by not keeping a central database and the infrastructure that it requires is probably greater then the theft.
I wanted to make money in the computer industry, so I choose to become a computer programmer, however now it looks like all the money to be made from the computer industry is being made by the lawyers.
Most likely someone will buy the companies IP to get more important things like the name and customer database. They will buy it at a rock bottom price to try and covert the customers over and make a quick buck.
By the person who owns the IP. Just because you can't find the owner doesn't mean there isn't one. Once a corporation disappears doesn't mean anyone can take their IP. Like all their physical property, all their IP gets sold to pay back investors. Some times the sale of the property is handled by a 3rd party, so no one in the former corporation may know who owns it. The bottom line is someone paid money for the right to the IP and once they realize what you have done I am sure they will not be too happy.
Does that mean they can pay an Indian citizen living in the US the wage that they would make if they were living in India? $5000 a year won't go too far in the US.
hmm well I'll have to double check that at work tomorrow, but if it is true then BAD MICROSOFT NO COOKIE FOR YOU! That just leads to really bad code because if you are not using the proper datatype in SQL queries, you probably are not doing it for other variables.
It is only valid Microsoft Access SQL, or any variant of SQL that I have used, only if votes is defined as a string. Since the number of votes is a number, I'll assume votes is some type of Int, so you will probably get an error.
You could do with with cron and the command line software update program. But the time it checks shouldn't really matter, it will cache that there are new updates and bug you the next time you login or the next scheduled time. If your computer is off when it was scheduled to run it will check as soon you login. You shouldn't miss anything.
Where did you get that information? I was told by 2 Apple reps that there was no release date, only that it would be ready by the end of the year. After running the beta for a few weeks August seems a little optimistic.
they are not going to Bata test a new technology on a system
I would hope this isn't a Beta test but more of a pilot program. 100,000 votes can make a big difference, see Flordia 2000. There should not be anything Beta in an actual election.
Unless they are going to require a specific Windows plugin or program, there is no reason that this wouldn't work on any platform. If this is going to be on the web, I have done Web work for the government and they are very picky about accessability (people with disabilities, ie blind people, had to be able to access the site with special equipment). I have a feeling this has more to do with bad reporting then locking out other platforms. The article doesn't state who the author is (other then AP), but I am guessing (s)he is not a techie.

hehe and SJ would never fudge a benchmark to make the Apple product win :)
I believe you are incorrect, Micheal Jackson just owns the publishing rights to the Beatles songs, not the actual recorded songs. see

7. Get sued for IP theft
Why do the people of rural India need videoconferencing?
Hell, I live in San Diego, California and I don't need video conferencing. And more to the point I don't want it either.

wait until August when they release it
