This... People are designing for one medium used one way. All of the large data workers I know (Programmers, accountants, graphics designers, architects...) HATE these new UIs and use Windows 7 / Gnome 2 style interfaces. (And often have dual monitors) I suspect it will not be long before things start to shift back...

I'm fairly sure if you start putting subtle ad elements into the stuff people are watching, people will make a drinking game out of "spot the product placement".

Hell, you'll even get some YouTube channels doing nothing but videos about "5 product placements you surely missed in (show)".

Why subtle and not direct? Look how well it worked in Chuck! And he was a better sponsor than Jerred... ;)

I think the point is that you do not see it. Between ad blockers and just training yourself to ignore the distractions, ads have little to no meaning now, and advertisers are recognising it. The first reaction (force people to whitelist) is having little to no effect, and so advertising has to change. And if it becomes less obnoxious, people might actually start noticing them again.

Actually, no... I fired up a sniffer and checked. It does not seem to send data (at least not for now) unless the keyword is spoken. And it does not have enough storage to "record everything you are saying and doing" in between activations. That said, since it auto updates, any of that can change.

Actually, it is dropping because of the walled garden. If echo was tied into Wikipedia (and with skills, it is) it would be used a lot more. The problem is the way skills are presented, which is not at all. If you install Wiki Brains or Professor Kay, usage goes up dramatically!

Unfortunately, leaked info about the upcoming G6 indicates that LG has succumbed to non-replaceable battery syndrome. *sigh*

My LG Stylo 2 Plus has great battery life AND a replaceable battery, so it's clearly not an impossible task to have both.

You would think they would look at the sales figures for the new phones and compare them with the used market (which is quite strong) for their old phones and take a hint!

LG G2 and G3 sold like crazy, not sure about the G4, but apparently G5 was a flop. And with reason, main selling point were flashy gimmicks nobody actually needed.

Because they brought out a new flagship phone that does not serve that market, and is sold at a significant premium. Note the still good sales figures on their other phones...

Except the G5 sales figures clearly show that this "large market" doesn't exist, or at least it isn't "large".

Non-standard ports and vendor specific accessories are not a part of that market. And especially not at a premium.

No, he is pointing out that the majority of producers are going a specific direction, and there is a large market of people that do not want to go there. The problem for LG is that much of that market now buys cheap China off brand phones because they have removable standard batteries, lots of ports, and stock Android.
