    It depends on the alternate viewpoints? Some topics don't have much in the way of alternate viewpoints. There isn't "common" ground on a lot of topics it either is or it is not.

    Climate change... Everyone agrees that it is science. Everyeone agrees that it is obvious. Of course WHAT is obvious depends on which camp you are in, and you only see news that supports that camp.

    This begs the question of why someone would want to get alternative viewpoints. Most people don't want to be regularly exposed to ideas, beliefs, culture, etc., that conflicts with their own. It creates anxiety, anger, and/or dissociation.

    This is the point. You never hear the news that you do not want to hear. You never hear about how bad high fructose corn syrup is because you do not know people who know how bad high fructose corn syrup is. You never hear about the Obama encroachments on civil rights because... Or you never hear about republican assults on women because...

    Why doesn't fastmail also use servers that suppress duplicates?

    Because thay followed the standards, unlike Google that made this bastard imap like interface that has very poor "wake up" performance.

    I'm SO happy that I pay for software. I don't have to deal with all of this open source drama bullshit, and have to worry about when somebody's temper tantrum decides to end or radically change some software that I rely on for my business. My eyes glazed over halfway through the story summary, and I really don't care.

    I agree with you in concept, but how does Windows 8 fit in with that world view?

    I think we'd (the Linux community) be a lot farther ahead if they got together and implemented a single solution that solved all the known requirements.

    You are are a Windows user. Half Life 3 is released for Linux first... If you want it you either 1) Install Linux 2) Buy a Steam Box 3) Wait until it comes out later on Windows. You know... Like they are waiting now for the new GTA... But if you can not wait, you have 2 options, not just one like with the new GTA.
