The (original) fix is available as an ISO and USB stick image for non-Windows machines. I used it on a Macbook Pro last month.

We waited for an hour at BoC last time to change money. It was like a Kafka-esque DMV. 4 windows, 1 wasn't available for currency transfers, then 2 closed as it became my turn (lunch time.) Then they didn't change all the money over. Why? Who knows. Use China Merchants Bank or just take your RMB back to HK.
We stay near a street vendor that serves "Stinky Tofu." He's not the only one in town with that product, but I'm fairly sure I know where the stink comes from.
The worst part about gutter oil is that the "reprocessing" actually makes it more dangerous. The worst chemicals aren't broken down by heat and become more potent as the other garbage (literally) boils off.
Also, bring your hotel name and address written in Chinese. The cab drivers will not know English. When you get to the hotel ask for a name card. It will have the name, logo, address, and phone number of the hotel on it. You can then give that to a cabbie.
The hotels will change cash, but only perfect foreign bills. I got told "this bill is broken" when it had a small crease in the corner. Either use an ATM in China or use one in HK and have Travelex do the conversion. There are also ATMs at the Hong Kong airport that dispense RMB. I trust those more than the ones in China. Beware that Travelex will convert your foreign currency to HKD and then to RMB if you bring them cash, doubling their fees. Use the ATM.
The advice to get a limo ride is also terrible. If you share the car with someone and they get searched, you get searched. If the car in front of you gets searched it can take a very long time to cross.
It's much easier to take a cab from HKG to the border and walk across if it's evening time. It's about $300HK/ $50 USD and you can take 1-4 people. The Shenzhen Bay crossing closes ~11:30PM, though, so if you're late you'll have to find another way.
During the day, a ferry is a better bet because customs can be extremely clogged up at the walk through checkpoint. I've waited 2-3 hours to walk back across into Hong Kong. There are far fewer people at the ferry terminal checkpoints.
Beware of Gutter Oil.

Only take red or blue (electric) taxis. The guys at Shenzhen Bay who want your business will charge 2-5x the regulated rate.
The chooser popped up once or twice in Reeder on my iPhone but seems to have disappeared as of a few days ago and I only get the desktop site now.
It'd be nice to have a "switch to mobile/desktop" link somewhere on the page.
I just bought a Gateway NX570X laptop, they're still offering XP on it. Unfortunately, they're charging extra for it.

Having done exactly what the parent was talking about, I can advise against using a capture card. I tried a Hauppauge 150 and an ATI TV Wonder Elite and couldn't get the colors to come out well at all. The image was also a lot softer that I would have liked. I borrowed a VHS->DVD unit from a friend (I'm sorry, this was 6 months ago, I don't remember the brand off-hand) and the results were far better than what my PC pulled off.
Parent's advice is good. I have a set of PX300s that I got in December. They filter outside noise, but only repetitive stuff (the vending machine outside my door, for example). A knock on the cube wall will probably not go unnoticed.
As for the folding, my set are very well built and don't catch on my hair like my old Sony fold-ups did. If you can get them for less than $150, they're a great deal.
I've had only excellent luck with the LED-based Canon scanners. I'm not a fan of their flourescent ones however. I had one and the bulb died (edges darkened significantly) in just over a year. LEDs have much longer lives (granted I probably just got a dud flourescent). My old N650U is a workhorse. As an added bonus, the LED-based units don't need a power cord.
This one is only $49.99 and should do very well for you.
Thank you, captain obvious... I was pointing out that it's a minimal percentage of total filesharing traffic. (Although it looks like I didn't read the comments thoroughly enough, as a couple of other people came up with the same number I did a few minutes before)
Intel and AMD report thermal characteristics differently. AMD reports max thermal dissipation for the entire line (notice that 3200+ has the same 89W as a 3800+), whereas Intel gives thermals for each chip, so a 105W P4 will run at 105W.
No AMD chip currently in the market gets near the 89 Watts quoted.
I'm not sure about your clock throttling statement, but I wont deny that it could be true.
While it does cost to retool and for the R&D, the new methods/tech/etc. can be applied to all drives from the top to the bottom of Toshiba's lineup.
Think about it. A 40GB drive probably has 2 platters. The 20GB model could just have 1. Same drive, just one less platter and set of r/w heads. The cost of R&D per drive stays low.
Waterproof electronics benefit from wireless charging as well. Don't have to have a sealed charging port or put a silly rubber boot in it.
Movies and TV shows are still DRMed.

Turns out the initial fix didn't solve the issue completely. There's another fix coming soon: http://www.anandtech.com/show/...

Yeah. I know the difference but just wanted to make a joke about stinky tofu.

Took the words out of my mouth. This is infuriating and trivial to fix.
Exactly. HP puts up a higher offer, then if Dell is serious, they have to match it. It's a gamble since as AC says below, Dell can just walk away.
Maybe they're trying to push Dell into buying at a higher price?

My StarTac circa 2001 (although I know StarTacs came out well before that) had them.

11.34% * 12.3% = 1.39% of total traffic.
Don't forget that Apple can now use off the shelf chipsets that are bound to cost far less than the fairly custom ones they were using before.
Intel and AMD report thermal characteristics differently. AMD reports max thermal dissipation for the entire line (notice that 3200+ has the same 89W as a 3800+), whereas Intel gives thermals for each chip, so a 105W P4 will run at 105W.

Seems to me that the $61 million in profits is after R&D costs, so I doubt funding that's a problem for Apple. --Ari
