Well thank you, that helped some. BTW I'd like to point out that most Europeans don't hate the US or Americans. Not at all. And speaking for myself just one sec. I love NY, Boston and large parts of the US. I have plenty US friends and don't think BUDWEISER is so bad a beer at all...
What we "hate" if that's the word to use, is the effects of extremely hazardous foreign politics. And right now I'm not really thinking about Iraq...
I currently live in El Salvador. For those not totally unaware of anything happening outside their borders, that should say enough. The perspective you gain by living in any Central American country gives a special flavor to airings of a US president venting against "terrorists and dictators".
Or those boso's saying the UN has failed, or some other idiots saying the International Court in De Hague is against US interests...
I'm all for fighting against dictators. If only that was remotely on the US foreign agenda...
Why do you keep posting this? You think we stupid? Us no unnerstand when someone full of shit?
As I remember correctly, the previous time you posted this exact same fairy tale, some people have pointed out you can't be doing what you describe in your post. You a flunky, a fake, a troll, so be gone.
True objectivity - like some think should be the norm - is in all practical sense non-existent. And every true attempt at it is boring - except for the holy wars that follow.
Facts, figures, comparisons, great stuff. But - in this context - meaningless without some extrapolation, guesswork and creative thinking...
I look for a bit of bias in everything I read and view, if only to check or offset against my own. It's fun. And the sites mentioned don't seem to claim to hold the holy grail of platform objectivity, so there you go.
It's surprising how many people value "objectivity" in what is supposed to be a bit of enlightning reading. What fun is left for the author if he's not allowed his own thoughts on the matter?
Btw thanks for pointing out Daring Fireball, don't know how I could have missed that one!
You are really confusing the issue here. The iPod is an appliance, you know, a machine that's supposed to work - always, not just when the planets are in alignment. Put plainly, the iPod is a toaster. It's supposed to make toast. Your computer is an artist. On good days it performs. We live with that. Making A Great Toaster(tm) is both simpler and harder to do. While it doesn't have to perform as many tasks as a computer, it needs to do what it can with ease and elegance, and especially, it needs to do it every god damn time you use it. And while the iPod is not cheap, it's situated in a much more competitive space, so the issue is not "is Apple capable of doing this", it's "is it the way to maximize profit and user satisfaction". I'll kill the suspense: It' is not.
Where should they put it? on the MS site? On the Rio site?
Whether the owners like it or not, the iPod is an Apple product, and the manufacturer's site is the best place to post relevant info and updates me thinks.
Just to make you happy in life, I've added you to my friends list. Tomorrow however you'll be a foe, and you'll end our brief aquaintance as a freak before I let you loose in hyperspace.
Once on a UI conference in Boston I asked my personal guru if she didn't feel bad about making Business software that ultimately cuts jobs in middle and upper management. She responded that sooner or later we'll all get replaced.
And she suggested that with all the free time we'll have in the not so near future, we'd be able to put in a bit more personal attention and caring for those around us.
As apologetic and lame as it may sound to you if you didn't hear her say it, I feel she has something of a point.
We - as a species - are driven by the wish to make everything around us magic, harmless and entertaining. Light, cooking, heating, hygiene,... all with the push of a button. At the same time we start screaming and kicking with every new push in the direction of full leasure.
What fun that this prospect of machines doing their bit is so controversial here.
(truth be told I have my reservations as well, but above posting deserves some backing me thinks;-)
Absolutely right, dirt cheap distribution, but the cost of having your music mastered professionally doesn't go away.
Respect for my ears and installation, master that sh*t! If you think your music is good, it's worth it.
tw I don't think Apple is going to *want* to sell badly mastered stuff, and it's pretty clear from the musicbaby website that they (Apple) have the final say in this.
If I knew you better, I might apologise more profusely, but I don't.
All jokes are harmless, apart from intent. I love jokes, the cruder the better, but I've read a gazillion jokes on homosexuality on \. lately that make me itchy, regardless of intent.
This is in some ways an unpersonal medium, and I couldn't see you wink while you were joking.
My rant was rightly deemed flamebait and probably over the top (as is your answer...) but the intent was to ridiculize the link gay-apple, not to insult you personally. I clearly did though and if you happen to be a nice guy/grrl, I'm sorry for that.
I've snipped an interesting comment from apple.slashdot (ars technica IBM G5 interview). Why interesting: it seems some people want to claim ownership of Linux on INTEL. That's what was said in this interview, right?
So does their copyright or whatever apply on PPC?
"... Improvements to GCC? (Score:5, Interesting) by Realistic_Dragon (655151) (...)
At one point in the interview it looks like IBM and Apple are working together on GCC improvements and donating the code back to the FSF.
This is a fairly big deal as people have pointed out before that GCC on PPC isn't as hot as it should be, but with that kind of muscle and money behind it it should go forwards by leaps and bounds.
With the new GCC improvements it looks like Linux on those new, remarkably cheap, P970 IBM boxes is going to be a real winner. And AFAIK Gentoo already runs on PPC fine - no one is going to be bitching about compile times with 4 1gig+ CPUs crunching away at it! (...) "
OK, so nobody knows the exact lines that would have been copied (by people other than IBM it seems), but don't you all have a pretty good idea?
Why not start a workgroup to create XXXprocessor support for linux from scratch? Or make alternative distro's and bounce them of the head of these SCO lawyers until they're bullshit-free?
Then make those available as publicly as possible as open source and include it in every new build from then on.
Is this possible?
I know, the grown-up thing to do is to ignore the snots, but me thinks this stuff is starting to affect the market, not to mention a lot of good people's good work...
OK, aha, I get it, I'll just suppose for one moment every mac user is a homosexual, filtering out all women - including my wife - who own a mac,... Nope, still not funny.
I don't care how many macs you support, you're still an ass.
The fact that mac users are supposed to be homosexuals doesn't bother me one bit, but the fact that there are so *fucking*many*scared*stupid*ignorant*little homophobes out there, and that some people still think it's funny...
In this audience no less.
btw, this karma stuff is fun, let's see if it gets any better.
This is a great feature, it makes my day (no sarcasm), but when all's said and done, it's just a document format.
So what I don't understand is: 1) Why would MS think this is a *bad* thing? 2) Why is everybody so enthousiastic, besides from the obvious, being that you can browse a Word document without opening Office or OpenOffice?
ps: am not trying to insult developers here, just curious what this means to you enthousiasts out there...
I use a US issued credit card and that still doesn't get me anywhere. I've read a few valid posts, but I feel a lot of those reasons can be circumvenced (wow, my spellchecker just exploded). For instance, a voluntary registry system for people outside the US, for instance less payback guarantees for people outside the US, etc etc. I wouldn't mind giving up some of my customer rights in exchange for a bit of convenience... Amazon is about the only site that lets me order books and DVD's. And Outpost lets me order *some* software. That's already something, but I want more more more:-)
Could this be modded up? I think this is the perfect forum for dick-talk. Now that we've established who's got the prettiest, can we finally talk size here?
Well thank you, that helped some.

Oh yes it is most definitely a troll, and one with a beard...
All Apple updates are FREE.
All Apple upgrades - like all M$ upgrades are paid for.
The shame, the horror, the guts these people have to charge for their work.
Now go and write a 100 times
"I know the difference between an upgrade and an update"
Indeed.
