But seriously, how beneficial will this really be? I'm not an expert on open source (I'm not qualified for the term "beginner" either), but what advantage is this to Apple?
I can see where developers could use this to create thousands of cool applications for little tasks here and there, but what is the advantage outside of this? And how would it help the Rendezvous program grow?
Of course I'd have a different viewpoint. My uncle nearly died a few years ago from a failing kidney, so I understand my statement. Yet, this could become a problem in the near future.
Okay, so fifty years ago a patient would have died from a failing organ, now that patient lives. Is this a case where the strongest no longer survive? Are we on our way to overpopulation? Eh, that's off topic.
But, after we all praise this as a life saver, what are the consequences?
Advertising CAN make a difference, but many times does not. For example, why on Earth would a small town ever require advertisements to be shown? In a town of 50,000 or so, most everyone in that town is aware of most everything that is going on in that town--at least in the areas that they have any interest in.
In bigger cities, advertising becomes more effective, but also more expensive, which typically means that ony well-known, well-to-do companies can afford decent ad campaigns. This is pointless. If a company is well known, there is no reason to promote it over the air waves except to remind viewers of its existence.
The only time that I believe advertising is effective, is with new companies--companies that have no market penetration and need to get the word out on their existence.
All I can say is, "w00t".
While this doesn't sound all too impressive, I'm glad to hear of it. More needs to come of space flight, and NASA surely isn't doing much on its own.
[offtopic] Frankly, I almost with that NASA was a corporation... [/offtopic]
