They know SCO is dying so that are trying every tactic they can to try and stay in the game...
IMHO they're screwing themselves though... Who wants a product that is basically available in a free product? (Or you can chose to pay for a CD & support from any number of distros).
Some companies (& orgs like RIAA) just can't take the hint that they aren't needed or wanted any more...
Don't get me wrong, SCO is probably very wanted in some sectors, but give me a break, Linux can do just about everything you can do with SCO.
The single port per unit would only mean that the resident would have to get a hub or switch to have multiple computers connected.
If you want to serve content... Set up a deal to route it through a specific port for an extra fee.
As far as supportting M$ crap... I don't like M$ any more than you, but M$ is what Joe Q. Public is using. regardless of what you recomend.
as far as being blacklisted by AOL/MSNBC doens't that only apply to the dynamic addresses provided my the DSL providers? If you get a T1, make sure you get a static IP outside of that range & you shouldn't have to worry about it. (At least that's my nieve point of view on that issue)
Oh God...
Here it comes...
Another Flame war...
Woo Hoo!!!
My method is better than you method! No mine is better!
Blah, blah, blah!
or is this the one that we all fight about which one is more socially acceptable....
Or the one that we all fight about which one it the decided standard...
Or the one that we all fight about which one is considered the best practice...
IANAL, but from what I understand...
If they keep logs and they are subpoena(ed)
then they MUST not destroy them.
They have every right to not keep logs, or destroy them if they choose to, but as soon as existing logs are subpoena(ed) they must at least set them aside (if they want to fight for the right to not give them up). If they destroy the logs after the subpoena, then they are in a load of trouble...
(Does the name ENRON ring a bell???)
AMEN!!!
What ever happened to a woman being proud to be a woman, and a man being proud to be a man? Most women I know enjoy dressing up and painting their nails and being social. Most males I know like playing some type of sports (some much more physical than others, but sports none the less), trying to stay in shape, and off the wall thinking type things (mind puzzles, brain teasers, etc...).
I did say most because not all Males or Females are the same. But give me a break. I'll guarantee that more than half of the readers or/. are males. We thing, feel, act, and live differently than most women.
I have absolutely no problem with women who like to do things that men typically do, but I do have a HUGE problem with women who think they have to prove themselves better than men. I'm tired of hearing about feminist groups fighting to force private clubs to allow female members, or how they don't think it's fair to not allow women in the NBA or NFL.
I don't expect every women to act the same, or even act "feminine". But is it too much to ask that if you want to do something, do it. Stop trying to drag the rest of the world into a huge fight because you think it's a "good cause".
BAH!
I'm tired of ranting... (& I'm sure you're tired of reading my ranting)
How ignorant are you Mr AC.
How many times does it have to be said that none of us (in this war) wants to take over the government in Iraq. We want to rid them of a tyrant and then assist them in building their own NEW government that will not be under anyone elses rule.
I agree, they are not americans, & they have their own culture. And they will continue to be Iraqis and they will continue on with their life with their culture. Only now, they will have a governing body of Iraqis that will (hopefully) not be as tyranical as Saddam.
Get a clue!
I see...
Sounds like the same mentality that went into why the width of train track are the width they are... (The whole it's the way we've always done it BS)...
If 75% of your staff isn't willing/able to learn new software, then why are they in the technology industry (& why did you hire them)? The tech world is changing every day, & if your IT staff can't/won't keep up, then you should consider finding some better help. I for one am not going to listen to this "Because that's the way we've always done it" crap.

What ever happened to "Pinky & the Brain", I need some new ideas on how to take over the world.
OK...
If we've seen at least Oregon & Texas...
Where are the other "50 or so" going to come from???
To my count there would only be another 48 (49 if you count DC).
Eh... What do I know
The compaint read more like a SCO advertisement than a caomplaint versus IBM. All they are doing is crying about how Linux didn't used to be a big deal.
It also sounds like they are trying to say that if IBM didn't get involved in Linux, it wouldn't be a viable operating system? WTF! Linux is what it is today because of the blood sweat & tears of programmers around the world offering their talent & time to build it up.
Sure alot of things are going to be base off of the "concepts" & "ideas" from Unix, but that's just because those concepts & ideas work! Why would we build on new concepts that aren't proven to work & work well?
Give me a break! I think SCO needs get the pool stick out of their @$$ & learn to play nice. (instead of griping that they didn't properly foree the future of Linux.)

This won't work because of one simple reason... These states are making laws to govern thier own state. What are you going to do if you receive an email from out of state?
The Internet doesn't start & stop at physical borders. If a company wants to use spam to advertise, they'd just have to "create" a company in another nation, use this company name to spam, advertise, & distribute their product.
Also, what's stopping a Texan from spamming people in Arkansas? You can't enforce Arkansas laws in Texas. It doesn't work that way.
Now if you could get a law like this implemented nation-wide, then you might have something worth talking about. Most companies aren't going to actually try the whole "create a company in another country" route (that was just stated for the sake of argument).
I don't think any kind of technological answer is really going to solve this problem. No matter what filter or program you use there will always be too much colateral damage.
For instance:
Say some one had an allergic reaction to a drug that abnormally enlarged his penis and caused his breasts to grow 2 cup sizes. I bet you the doctor's spam filter would end up blocking that email.
Just my 2 worth...

Wow...
They already ignore my calls, emails, & letters...
Now they can ignore my posts as well!
As if they are actually going to do anything with this board... They'll have an auto-responder set up to make you think they read your post and that they actually care about the little people (ie the ones that don't fund their campaigning).
Oh well...
I'm sure some bafoon will think it's doing some good
I agree with the article that was posted yesterday... The recording industry has to change.
The days of a person rising to startdom & being paraded around as a recording company's trophy need to end. Sure it's nice to people with real talent make it big, but is that talent really worth MILLIONS of dollars? Give me a break! I work my butt off 45 to 50 hours a week to bring home just enough to pay the bills and get me & my wife by (& keep my little home network growing).
Technology is changing every other industry. The music industry is just finally starting to realize that they are going to have to change the way they do business.
Screwing with people by putting crappy music out there is just going to piss people off! I really do hope the recording giants fall on their faces.

Yeah... I was going to try & build the PC in a hollowed out VCR, but I decided I didn't want to mess with getting all the riser cards and squeezing everything into that tight of a space.
(You probably know this)
But I didn't mean that I was trying add a VCR to my computer, but that the PC would record TV digitally (removing the need for a VCR in my entertainment center).
But that would definately be an interesting mod to actually combine a VCR into a PC...
Although, I might look into that for my next project...

I've just started putting together the hardware yesterday. It's very do-able, and there are a few people that are actually doing a great job at setting up nice GUIs. (MythTv). I plan on basing it off of Linux, but if I can't find the neccessary parts/drivers/software, I'll end up using Windoze 98. I'm actually building the thing in a customized case that will go pretty well with my entertainment system, and I'll have it networked with my other computers for head-head action... It's not just a glorified Tivo. It's another computer on my network, who's primary function will be to replace my DVD player, VCR, CD Player, while adding a MP3 player & another spot for gaming.
Just a side note...
This is not a replacement for Tivo or any other recorder.
It's alot more expensive & a lot harder...
This is a project for people like those that read/.
