> Why would you bump enterprise off your tivo season pass list?
Because I am having less and less confidence in the show managing to not suck. That and I try to only keep shows on season pass that are actually GOOD and deserving.
After all, if TiVO really does keep track of your viewing choices, no need to give props to a show you hate by keeping it season passed =p.
Out with the old (Enterprise), in with the New!

If this show turns out to be even half as good as the hype, it may very well be bumping Enterprise off the TiVO Season Pass list.
Whedon's Buffy has become a whine fest, relationship soap opera and I fear that Angel will soon devolving in the same manner. Whedon has talent when he harnesses it properly, and perhaps this vehicle will allow him to put it back on display.
I am particularly excited to read here that it will be very "geeky". I am so sick of watered down sci-fi where they don't make use of ANY scientific mumbo jumbo. Sure, the tech-speak should never rule (and thereby ruin) the show, but good sci-fi should have SOME technobabble! =)
I realize I am bucking the trend here, but what I really want to see is less of this combo crap and more SINGLE FUNCTION devices (and software apps, for that matter) that do one major thing and do it extremely well.
For example:
Internet suites suck. I want a stand alone email program that just does email and does an amazing job of it. I want a stand alone newsreader for usenet. I want a stand alone browser. I want a stand alone IM program (which, incidentally, talks to anyone on any IM network of course).
I want a PDA that does an amazing job at being a PDA. It doesn't need to do MP3s. It doesn't need to take (or show) pictures. It doesn't need to operate as my TV remote or my garage door opener.
I want a printer that just PRINTS. Has anyone noticed the complete LACK of innovation in the printer space? Why haven't color LASER printers at 10+ page per minute speed come to the consumer level ($200 and under). All we get are a variety of inkjet printers with various extra features tacked on (fax, scan, etc). They do a crappy job of scanning and a crappy job of faxing (of course, fax machines are all crap and it is a technology that needs to die, but that is a whole different matter).
I want my scanner to scan. I want my fax to fax (I actually want it to die, but I really shouldn't keep getting distracted by my fax hatred). I want my printer to PRINT.
Is this too much to ask? Combo devices generally do everything poorly. I would rather have devices that do ONE thing and do it GREAT.

You are thinking of AIMster I believe.
I really hope someone like jabber or GAIM successfully creates a viable alternative to AIM, MSN, and all the rest. But the key is not the protocol. The key (imho) is the client.
People hardly even talk about ICQ now, but it was the former king of the block for IM programs. AIM whupped its butt largely because people seem to prefer the way the AIM client operates.
Someone just needs to write a more feature rich/easy to use client that piggybacks onto the other networks. Open source it and the community will make sure to keep it operating with the existing IM networks.
As more and more people use this client, the necessity of it working with AIM's protocol becomes less and less.
That is the best way to ensure that IM does not lie in the hands of a few huge corporations. This is a very important battle because IM *is* a significant killer ap that is used so extensively that it cannot be controlled by AOL and Microsoft.
It would be nice if some of the open source communities that handle things like Apache, Linux, etc. would work on a top notch IM client.
A test pattern would be more interesting than this piece of crap. And furthermore, what the hell is it doing on *COMEDY* Central. Put something FUNNY in its place (and while you are at it, get rid of Crank Yankers and any other show that has the completely horrendous hack known as Jimmy Kimmel).
This really is not something that bothers me as long as it does not mean *MORE* ads (which I would imagine is impossible since to do so they'd have to cut out portions of the shows and that would be really damn obvious).
If I have to see ads anyway, I would rather they be ads I might be interested in rather than useless crap.
I would much rather see car ads, computer game ads, ads about local events, specials at Giant or Safeway than see some useless crap like douche ads, tampon ads, that piece of shit Dell Dude (god he sucks), etc.

No, it is like pleading with the 5 major ketchup makers in the US to sit down and use the same standard for measurement and ingredient listing.
And guess what, the FDA does that. Just look at the label.
> Every single one of them has tons more money than Microsoft.
Um........
I hate to break it to you, but there are very few COUNTRIES with more money than Micrsoft, and even less COMPANIES with more money than Microsoft.
It happens to be one of the wealthiest companies in the entire world. It is up there with GM, GE, etc.

Thank god this stupid show is cancelled.
