C++0x is trying to do this with the new use of the "auto" keyword. I like the concept: you can tell the compiler to deduce the type on any variable you're initializing with the result of a function call. I can't wait to see how that works in actual production code.
Try var in C#. While not as far reaching as auto in C++0x, it's extremely useful. In my experience, it works great.
This would matter if the PC was generating anything "higher bandwidth" than AC3, DTS or PCM 192. To my knowledge, there's no gain to running the audio over HDMI from an HTPC. DVI will give you 1920x1080 at 60Hz. Convert that bad boy to DVI and you're golden.
Yeah, I can't wait to see two dimensional character development and terrible continuity with great special effects. Maybe they can use some digital effects to insert Blake into the rest of the series.
