My notebook an amd turion based acer spends more time in Mepis then windows now. If not for a few games windows would be removed and mepis given the entire HD. All my hardware except for the internal card reader works perfectly fine though sound took some editing of a file in /etc/rc and the video required ATI's binary drivers for 3d support. I'll make the switch fully once MS pulls support for XP as I will not run Vista as it runs like crap even on dual core systems making a P2 running win 98 look fast.

I wouldn't call the windows version of photoshop a professional tool by any standard as adobe for some reason can't write stable code on windows maybe the VM memory allocation in windows is just too broken and as screwed up and DRM happy as vista is don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon.

I find it's better to do a clean install over the old one vs upgrade as drivers always get broken and all my comps have newer ATI and nvidia cards so I must use the binary driver or they run like shit. Good news now they don't consider the madwifi atheros drivers taboo anymore they auto install every time now so more having to connect the laptop via ethernet and trying to find a driver while risking dependency hell or having to make do with ndis wrapper which is kinda kludge. Also for the codecs simple enable universe and multiverse in synaptic you don't even have to see a console for that part. Install gstreamer mpeg libs w32 codecs mplayer and BMP. Next install gcc and dev packages get and compile decss or wget libdvdcss from one of the sites listed in the wiki. As for for acroreader I find Xpdf works a lot better then that piece of bloatware heck I even avoid it under windows opting for foxit instead. Lastly you could just install mepis which makes the codec and closed driver part easier and has has a better KDE support then Kubuntu .

A real life Data or Chii if robotics ever gets that far along likely would be powered in this manner if some compact nuclear battery isn't used. Heck they were even truthful in the AGA chipset having only 256,000 colors since that was the number of pixels available in the high color depth. I can only see their advertisement of the 6bit per channel display being 24bit because of dithering as truthful only when displaying a resolution lower then the LCD's native resolution such as 800x600 or 640x480.
