I did something similar and totally hosed the system up. I was upgrading from a 120 gig drive to a 200 gig drive using dd. This worked, sort of. I copied the boot sector of the old hard drive onto the new on and when I did, everything appeared ok. I ran linux fdisk and created some linux partitions using the new 80 gigs of space. Windows fails to boot and blue screens with a 0x7B error "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". I tried copying this over and over again and everytime, I would get this error. So I desided to go get Drive Image 7 from local retailer thinking that I'll be able to backup the original drive. I place the original drive into the computer as the 200 gig wasn't stable (would crash after 30 minutes of uptime). Now I can't log into Windows at all because of WPA. Going back to the 200 gig drive now yields the same result. There was no way around it. Safe mode doesn't allow you to login and there was nothing that I found in system recovery that helped (FIXBOOT/FIXMBR).
I ended up reinstalling at this point. I was better off reinstalling it anyway as I removed some bloat by not installing some apps that I never used. I still have all of my data, but I just can't boot with it.
Now I've created a boot partition of 10 gigs so contain only Windows and Office programs. Everything else will go to the next partition.
The questions I have is can I restore the installed OS with exactly the same size boot partitian in the future? I will test this someday. I think it's also important to do an boot partitian image PRIOR to activating Windows. It would same some time on reinstalls if you can restore with at least Windows XP with Office.
The RHCE test is going to be on RedHat Enterprise Linux now. I'm sure all the 2004 RH300 classes will be RHEL. The instructor mentioned it when I was in RHCE training last month.
Microsoft has these virus problems because they are #1. They are the market leader. If Linux was #1, people would write the viri for Linux. I don't care how large or small your network is, or how well designed it is. The problem is the user. The users need to be educated on security before you can keep viri from popping up in your enterprise. It's usually the uneducated users using the OS's that are simple that give security administrators the most headaches. A lot of times it's the ivory tower folks that have the most infected PC's.
With companies outsource real human jobs to India, it's no wonder we are having trouble here in the US. What jobs are gonna be left here in the US besides restaurant jobs? I bet in the future they will figure out how to man drive thru places like White Castle and McDonalds completely by robots.
What a better way for the Feds to gain access to tons of information on the population. All to collect information about you under the guise of terrorism. Don't under estimate the power of the dark side...
Actually, I need to correct myself. Erasing hard drives doesn't need the host OS at all. Keep forgetting about the HD setup utilities that I never use...
What happens if the user is running Linux? I can't see the bios pinging anything without the help of the host OS. Let alone erasing hard drives. Linux will become the thieves OS of choice. It's my OS of choice when looking at a computer that's been disabled by a virus.
Blanketing the area with Wi-Fi or Fiber doesn't matter. Both are going to increase in speed and require the same changes (end user hardware and head end hardware) as technology progresses.
I believe that the ISP should foot the bill here. ISPs are in the business of bandwidth. They monitor it well. The hosted site usually doesn't have the resources to monitor their systems like an ISP monitoring their facilities through their 24/7/365 NOC.
As to the insurance issue, it's called "Hire a security consultant" to lock down your box and keep it up to date if you can't do it yourself.
The details of his plea agreement are a matter of public record. This particular court doesn't have criminal images online so I'm not able to get it.
If there is someone near Alexandria, VA, they can just go to the clerk and ask for the case file for 02cr634 document #3. You can see it for free but they will charge you 25 cents a page to copy it on their copiers.
This is typical if you answer to even saying "I drink once a week with friends" or any use at all. Rocci probably said something just like this and they are throwing it there.

The encrypted filesystem isn't safe either unless you keep the secret key file with you. Your pass phrase won't be any match to a government cracking box.
The valuations that are used in this case and the ones involving piracy have a problem with determining what the actual damages are. It's funny when the BSA testifies that the software companies it represents claim 11 billion a year in loss but yet can't tell the jury how that calculation is derived. My guess is in their trial, the same thing will happen. They will never be able to prove *exactly* how many people were watching their broadcasts without paying for it.
Who beta tested this? I never once heard of anyone running this and they are ready to launch a production version of it? Maybe I should take my blinders off if I somehow missed this but I never heard of any beta versions.
I think they price matched it to the after rebate price...
They won't switch from Linux to IIS on Windows, They'll switch to FreeBSD!

PC speed is lagging horribly because of hard drive technology. Seems to always be something.

Yeah, they will end up like 3dFX did. They are going to miss the boat on some break through in the near future.

This is packet shaping how it should have been implemented since this P2P craze began...
You could but Slashdot might invoke the DMCA on you!
Heh, 98% of the packets on the internet are useless, like for instance, I'm playing Quake 3 right now...
