I would pretty much bet that they'll charge this whole thing against the cd sales of the artists that had this crap on their cds, effectively costing sony nothing. Remember that this is a company that still makes artists pay for "breakage" on iTunes sales.
It's marked as an Intel something or other, and it's also marked as an engineering sample. I bought it off ebay years ago. It is something like a 500MHz P3. From turning it on to getting the freebsd login prompt is 15 seconds. It doesn't mess around. Note that by "login" prompt, I don't mean boot prompt.
Why this isn't more common, I don't know. My dell and valinux boxes take a minute or so just to get to the boot prompt, very annoying.
The OLPC or a similar project is another great way for the Gates Foundation to funnel money back into Microsoft while perpetuating the Windows monopoly. That's why they have such an interest in running Windows on the OLPC platform and making a competing platform. Better yet if the mesh networking doesn't quite work.
I can imagine Bill going to various corrupt governments (look at Thailand right now for an example) and saying "We can run Windows on those things and make them useful for you, and the Foundation will even foot the bill".
I'm too late for this to count, but here's my theory. They get Windows running on olpc. It costs money, but the Gates Foundation is made of it. In other words, this might end up being another way to funnel money from the Gates Foundation back into Microsoft while helping to prop up and extend the Windows monopoly. They go to corrupt governments (think Thailand as a recent example) and say "too bad about those crappy Linux computers your kids are using, but the Gates Foundation would love to donate a million copies of Windows, which retail for $100 each, so that your kids can get some real use out of them". The mesh networking might not work as well with the standard Linux version, of course, meaning that you need to convert them all.
Those of you who don't believe Gates is evil need to step back and look at how he's been using the foundation, and the dollars there, to spread Windows. I'm guessing this is another ploy along those lines.
International Communism was atheistic in nature (note that most religion is illegal even today in China, Cuba, etc.), and yet was responsible for 60-100 million deaths in the last century. Nazism was responsible (directly) for 11 million deaths, indirectly perhaps twice that. No religion has ever come close to that. Not even remotely.
The lack of belief in a higher power, and the ultimate accountability that it brings, definitely opens people up to commit more heinous acts. If you're nothing but another conglomerate of matter, and I have absolutely nothing to lose by destroying you, then what exactly would stop me if you're in my way?
Stalin had no qualms about destroying life by the millions. You have to forgive people if they have hope that he's rotting in hell for eternity.
The KFC thing is probably a bit bigger, but putting logos on buildings doesn't seem that uncommon. Sticking it in the middle of the desert is more of a publicity stunt, which worked.
He's the President. Even if there were some way to change the legal structure to combat global warming (and there really isn't), that would be the job of Congress, not the President. People like John Kerry, remember?
Something like the Kyoto treaty, though, which puts CO2 output levels back to like 1990 levels for us while not affecting larger countries, will have no effect. That's why Clinton didn't care about it, and nor does Bush. Nor does most of Europe.
It doesn't help their case that they take a jab at the President in the article, a man who can't do anything to help the situation. If it's not just political bullshit, then don't bring politics into it.
Sure -- I don't think anyone is saying we should never use computers for voting. Fix the problems, and then use them for voting.
Okay, I'm saying it: We should never use computers for voting.
Computers don't really bring much to the table that's positive, but they do bring a lot of potential problems. I would consider it if and only if it were the case that the computer did nothing beyond print out a piece of paper with your choices clearly designated that you could then drop in a box. At least that would fix the hanging chad/erasure marks problems with paper.
As important as this is, we also need to force people to show a government-issued ID in order to vote and make sure the voter rolls are as accurate as possible. There are plenty of ways that people are currently "hacking" our elections which don't rely on computers.
but most importantly, it makes it near impossible for the Feds to "disappear" him because he has the media spotlight on him and the second he goes missing the entire internet will raise a royal hell storm.
Yeah, because there's always an internet hellstorm when the government "disappears" someone here in the US.
Oh, wait. The government here hasn't disappeared anybody. My bad.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court takes a very loose view of what the Constitution says. For example, it considers building a hotel and condominiums as "public use" for the purposes of eminent domain.
Wrong. SCOTUS ruled (correctly, for once) that this was a state matter, not a federal matter. I have no problem with us making this a federal matter (and I'm for very limited federal government), but the proper way to do that is with a Constitutional amendment.
While your point is valid, this guy will likely go to a minimum-security facility where rape is unheard of. It's more like a college dorm that you aren't supposed to leave (you can walk out, there's no fence). Of course, if you do leave on your own, you'll find yourself in someplace with a fence and some bad people.
Do you think we would let Caucasiasn starve to death?
The problems in Africa aren't our fault. We send plenty of aid, but it ends up lining the pockets of Robert Mugabe and his ilk more than the people who need it. It's not a racial issue; it's a cultural issue.

Nazism was Christian? You must be using a different Bible....

This organization calls itself "Democracy Now!" yet fawns over Fidel Castro as if he really were leading a democratic government.
Well, that didn't work.

if they could tap into the stream of bullshit coming out of SCO...
How about:
Which word is spelled incorrectly in my sentance?
Can't.

Close, but you screwed it up slightly:
"One of these things involve alleged wrongdoing by Republicans, and one does not.
Guess which would probably make it on slashdot."
There you go....
Such as this

While I agree, it obviously needs to be clarified. Same with the 2nd amendment.
This same Jimmy Carter?

Stand back, the music industry may have just grown a brain cell.

As a Christian myself, let me assure you that tv preachers definitely have that effect on me.
And that's why we call you the "loony left".
This might hurt your brain, but Kim Jong Il has been trying to get a nuke since long before Bush was in office.
