no because the apple ppc processor generates less heat (from less transistors in the processor) than an x86 based processor, beleive me, if PC manufacturers could make something even close to a minimac it would have been made already.
maybe in a few years when a cpu of comparable speed wont melt in such a form factor but not today and as usual apple is ahead of the curve.
besides do you really want to be nagged every time she cant use expose or a lickable UI? in fact you can even pull some surprise like hiding the computer and intrducting her to the monitor keyboard/mouse
gawd me too. i dont have it save any passwords any more, there is a way to show passwords but there is no good reason to have a UI for it.
its listed under bug 259996
im surprised i have not come across any outsourcing replies. i understand that the article and summary are about more timeless folleys but when a business outsources a communication gap opens up and that whole team unity thing gets affected "and teams need that shit" (-tycho form PA)
from tfa: "It becomes a major role of (management) to kind of herd the cats in and make them all line up in a reasonable way," said Barry Wilderman
yea its becomes much harder when you have to work with people who not only have bad communication skills but may not know the subject matter.
(sarcasm) enjoy the saved cash you paradigms shifting fucks
let alone the fact that many times you dont know if your getting someone who has made 10 hello world programs and count themselves as a pro in each.
ah and the images in tfa of people holding each other watching their software fail was priceless.
ok so i saw something similar on mythbusters a while back. they tried everythingt o get the smell of a dead pig out of a car...didnt work.
now this wont kill the smell but it may help you deal with it. its expensive and somewhat geeky but this is slashdot right?
seal up all the holes you can that would allow air in/out of the computer and buy yourself an external water cooling unit like this one http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=Mzc2
the radiator is external (methinks) and you will limit the air exiting the case.
try this at your own risk. if it turns you into a smoldering pile of carbon i take no responisbility! good luck
many ppl slouch, pull in their shoulders and bring their faces closer to the screen when using a desktop computer so..
stop doing that
(where applicable)
i wonder how the lack of certain technologies affects the award (of course i didnt RTFA) things like the ipod leaving out a radio transmitter or the lack of a floppy disk affect a computers capability.
save all the 'legacy is bad' blah blah. the fact is that people still use it and apple computers are incompatible out of the box.
the reason that these are left out imho is bc there are all these flaws with those technologies. things like static on the radio or floppies not working when being transported (oh you know its happened to you) and it creates the possibility that someone will pick up an apple computer and have their visual osx orgasm interrupted by some thing not working.
i guess that in the end it all shows a concern for the 'computing experience' its things like that that make me wonder why apple has not beat the snot out of its competitors.
IIRC apples ichat does this by default. looks like its time to call grandma and alert her to the breaking of the law by using that functionality.
<ranting> seriously now, what are govt officials thinking? more recently about the gmail privacy issue (which is only made an issue by folks who dont understand it) and now this sillyness? and why is this post under the science section? yro maybe? argh! </ranting>
from the article: " Why should e-mail be any different? Why should VOIP? Why should IM? IRC? SMS? Either communications are private, or they are not. To the Internet, packets is packets. Maybe its time for the law to make up its mind."
IMO these mediums -should- be different bc they have different acuisition(sp?) methods.
lets take email and snailmail for example to open another person mail is a crime. it involves using your hands or some tool to break the paper/cardboard that the item arrived in and view its contents.
to open another persons email is an invasion of privacy which may involve simply turning the computer on. (auto email checking that puts a cute icon on teh screen, grandma clicks it and voila)
IMO we need laws that accomodate and understand the technology, not make some half arsed RL relation to it.
besides, if you think that your plaintext sent IM messages are ensured to be private to only you and your intended recipient then you really need to learn about el interneto. if ppl want that then use encryption!
not that i RTFA but in the short description it specifies a Moving vehicle so stopping and compiling 2.6.0 et cetera is fine.
now all this about gps recivers and passengers using laptops and such now that is what needs to be refined. not that im getting arrested these days for jaywalking but the broadness of this law can be both beneficial and harmful to people who are accused but i bet it would be very tough to prove that my passenger playing super mario would affect my driving (turn that crap down!)
relying upon the judicial system (hah!) to handle exceptions and such is not only expensive to us normal carbon units (lawyers fees) but it wastes time in our courts (increased taxes).
just click start>run then type "cmd" (no quotes)
/usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Advocacy
then
less
(yes the windows part is in jest)
