    Austerity hurts people on government dole. Without the dole, they can't get mind numbing drugs; they have to work instead of going to "Occupy" rape camps and riots.

    I suppose that can't be specified as a "risk", because it's more of a certainty.

    Field effect transistors - the dominant devices in modern digital logic - run faster at low temperatures. Conductor resistance usually drops as temperature drops; that also helps. Bipolar transistors lose current gain at low temperatures, and generally run fastest around room temperature.

    Graphics cards in computers draw most of their power doing lighting calculations for games, many calculations for each pixel. Phones just pass along pixel information from the source material, with nothing more complicated than scaling going on.

    Even a high end computer video card uses a lot less than maximum power when it's doing as little work as a phone does.

  11. In scanning old movies, we're coming up on the limits imposed by film and lens resolution. 8k may provide benefits for movies made with the utmost care, but I'd guess most movies won't provide additional quality beyond 4k scanning.

    The US use of corn sugar in soda predates the ethanol mandates by decades. US cane sugar growers lobbied Congress for high tariffs on sugar in order to beat down foreign competition. In the end, they lost, because high domestic cane sugar prices led to corn sugar being used in sodas. Still, if you buy sugar in a supermarket or baked goods, you're paying the added price caused by sugar import tariffs.

    I recently tried Coke "Life", Coke sweetened with sucrose and stevia. Doesn't taste as bad as Diet Coke, but it doesn't taste good.

    I have to clean beer cans, tea and water bottles off my streetside lawn occasionally. Soda bottles and cans, almost never. It looks to me as if the soda drinkers are the responsible people.

    Some of the sweet alcohols, like inositol, taste quite good. They're just too expensive to use as a replacement for large quantities of sugar.

    Soup cans are not only thicker than soda cans, they're made of different materials. Soda cans are aluminum. Soup cans are tinned steel. In some cases, the inside of a metal can may have a very thin plastic coating to provide better corrosion resistance.

    The common sweetener in U.S. soft drinks is fructose. Fructose is a sugar.

    Treating tap water as if it were a uniform product worldwide, or even nationwide, is ignorant. There are millions of wells in just the U.S.

    The $5400 consists of a $400 filing fee and $5000 lawyer bills. The copyright holders are getting NOTHING. It's a virtual certainty that the lawyers persuaded the copyright holders to sue, just so that the lawyers could have a nice payday.

    If the GP truly wants justice out of this, find the lawyer's car and fill it with manure.
