This trailer has been out on Apple for quite a while, but what ticks me off is that it was on AOL first. Have they no decency?
Also, on the second trailer, did anyone notice that the song near the end is 'summer requiem' from Requiem for a dream, with music by the kronos quartet? Nice.
Another cool thing on Apple is the X-men 2 trailer, which incorporates "Mars," from the planets. Good stuff.
I know, I know. I wish there was. It would have made it a much better movie, but still. Just the whole concept of god inside numbers, etc. is intriguing to me.
I think the UK does as well. But the thing is, if you're not doing anything THAT illegal, they won't care. I mean, if you talk about how you pirated a movie or have a bunch of pirated music on your computer, I don't think anyone would give a damn. They're probably too busy bugging geniuses they see as dangerous or potential 'terrorists.'
Speaking of geniuses, have any of you seen the movie 'pi'? It's a great geek movie, and full of weird, deep, and meaningful interesting stuff that really rocked my mind. Any thoughts on that movie? It's probably one of the few reasons I'm taking calculus, even though we havn't covered any of the good stuff yet. But if you havn't seen it, see it. It's a great flick that is incredibly thought provoking. (sorry, this was prolly way off topic, but I just finished watching it, and it's just a great film, and I have yet to see anything on slashdot concerning it, so just putting my 2 cents in...)
Yes, I could see this. But this is already happening, if you think about it. In my city, there are 3 hospitals, all which are horrifically understaffed. The entire medical community is spread out like thin bread over butter... Is it like that in other places? I believe that the next big thing in medicine may just be the middle men, in essence the nurse practicioners: People with a RN degree and a masters in some medical science that have the authority to perscribe but can't do surgery. (not sure in this, they may be able to soon, if it hasn't happened already...)
But imoho that will be the next wave. Less people are becoming doctors so that just might be necessary.
The monorail is gonna rock... I have to commute there a lot and that will make it a lot more... interesting?
But with all the nice sights you also get the smelly bums.:-/
::sigh:: This isn't really fresh meat, I've known about this for at least a month, unless it's a new trailer.
But it still is good to get the news out here! Yeah, it looks good!
The problem with your idea that eventually doctors will become technicians is kinda bogus. In essence, it's radio controlled, so you need a qualified surgeon to do it. And if they eventually got AI to take over, even then the doctor would have to know enough to perform the surgury on his own. Medical science has always been pretty deep and tries to make sure it covers all bases so that something like that wouldn't happen. I imagine that where there might be a technician standing by the robo surgeon if there was AI, there would still be a certified doctor nearbye just in case.
Ahw, what the hell. By the time that happens heart surgury will probably be outdated: replaced by giving people new hearts grown with stem cells!

Meet The Leonids
·
· Score: 1
I saw a lesser showing of the Leonids a little while ago lying in the bed of a truck... Which imoho is probably one of the best locations to meteor watch, especially if you are in the city. God we saw a ton, including one that actually detonated, creating a sudden flash. God that was weird. But the leonids are awesome... A must see.
But then again, think of all the people who play the Harry Potter RPG (if one exists. If so, I truely do pity the fools.) It's a good thing that Harry Potter came out a bit before 2 towers, I mean, otherwise the theaters would be impossible.... People would probably just get in line not knowing or caring which of the 2 movies (Potter or Lotr) they were going to see, just as long as they saw it. (Hey, I would.)
Hah. That show is pathetic, nobody actually watches it. (That I know of.) Just seeing the first episode was a turn off, seeing how they had that skanky scene with the vulcan and the guy, I'm sorry, on a first episode that's just wrong... Also, if I wanted to see a show that goes back a few hundred years, I would want to see a hell of a lot of nostalgia: Red shirted ensigns all the way! As fir DS9, sure it doesn't get the attention it deserves, but after TNG I think most of the treks just started rotting away. But that's just my opinion...
My astronomy teacher went to see an eclipse that would be visible in eastern washington, and apparently one of the side effects of eclipses, according to him, is they will cause clouds to form. That's what happened in his case, and 15 years later he's still mad.
Permission from wife, that's great... and the reason I'm never getting married!
What amazes me is that in essence each one of those bright cells are as big as Texas, and that the level of resolution is so fuggin high. How did they get it that sharp?
Hmm... The thing is while the army might be fantastic for some people who need it or want it in peacetime in getting their lives started and giving them good skills, but if you have to go to war things can change. And I agree, the US military has very few losses, but as a previous post noted, is this all ethical? Is 'following orders' a plausable excuse for torture of innocent civillians? And is this war you are fighting a 'just' war? If I were in the military I would find myself asking those questions, and that would probably impair my ability. And I think a lot of geeks would do that, and get pretty political and stuff. I dunno, Peace corps just seems a bit more suitable for the geeky computer programmer type, no offence to those who serve in our nation's military, for I do respect it, I just think that some people would not do well in it, and I believe that sometimes it can be unethical, just like anything. (But what would you rather be attributed to: Working for a company that was corrupt as a computer tech or fighting in a war full of war crimes on your side?)
Well the thing is military can be great for some people, but for present geeks it may not be the right thing, yet if they have the option of doing well in the world and being boring vs. being in the military, most geeks would probably do better being boring, as they would probably freak with other things.
And what if one of those bomb shells goes off a bit too near you, you won't have too much of a story to tell your grandkids because you'll be in the next world. Plus, I agree, most geeks would do horribly in the military. They'd freak out, not take orders well, and just lose it, plus their political views might interfere. I'd go with peace corps, because then you're helping people, not shooting at them. (But I'm not saying that war is necessarly bad, it's just that I find that geeky types will do better with jobs where you are helping people.) Plus, there's boot camp.
I agree that computer games can cause adreniline rushes, which while they can be addictive, are nothing in comparison to what they could be doing. I would rather have a homeless person hooked to EQ than hooked on crack... Then, what you do is help them get a little job so they can buy their own comp, get their own lil apartment, and own EQ or whatever. In essence you could say you're getting them into a drug that they have to get legit to get more of.... Ok, maybe this isn't ethical, but oh well, I've had my little computer addictions too, and I think that having a few addictions to computer games is far less bad than an addiction to crack, mainly in the fact that one is physically addictive and harms your health, another is more mental and also legal. Lots of people can be computer addicts and have productive lives, few people can be drug addicts and do that.
Hah, I've found that the little games are a real relaxing way to chill out, I do it sometimes with a bit of heavy metal music to chill out my nerves... hah...
Hmm, if that would work, there wouldn't be much of a need for the the people who are more oriented to the visual aspects of their cars to buy new ones, they would simply be able to buy new bodies for their car. That would be really awesome, actually... haha...
One year after this, I do agree, it takes up way too much tv time, but what I think is worse is that the tv time that is taken up is all corporate sponsored and stuff like that. It doesn't focus on the real issues: The people, the stories. I am sick of seeing people with american flags that say old navy on them, that's just disgusting. Another thing that really annoys me is that when the incident happened, a large portion of the world sent their regrets, and nowadays, everybody hates us. I just blame that on bad leadership on our part.
Another thing: Maybe 9-11 was what america had coming to it, but it wasn't what all the poor people had coming to them. And maybe the taliban had what was coming to them, but not all the innocents that were killed by american bombs. What I don't get is why are the errors of leaders and fanatics paid in innocent blood. Great habit of humans, eh?
Also, on the second trailer, did anyone notice that the song near the end is 'summer requiem' from Requiem for a dream, with music by the kronos quartet? Nice.

I like Harry Potter, LotR, and I play D&D...
I guess that means I REALLY get looked down on.
But then again, think of all the people who play the Harry Potter RPG (if one exists. If so, I truely do pity the fools.)

What, watching it off streaming video is missing it? Bummer! I always thought that was the total experience, especially if you have broadband!
