Try Dealing with BigPong and Tel$tra to get DSL in adelaide...

I just bought a house, where the previous owner had ADSL (bigpond service) which worked fine for them for over 2 years.

They disconnected the day they moved out, and I "ordered" my DSL the day after.

I was given the same physical pairs, and was told....

    wait for it....

"Sorry, your phone line is incapable of supporting DSL"

So, I said "How do you explain that the previous tennant had DSL"

    and the answer was....

    again....

    wait for it....

"Sorry, your phone line is incapable of supporting DSL and your line has been flagged as "*never* getting DSL"

I asked for an internal dispute to be raised within tel$tra, and they came back with the answer (you will never guess what it is)......

"Sorry, your phone line is incapable of supporting DSL"

So then I asked "How did the guy before me have it" and they said....

"Sorry, your phone line is incapable of supporting DSL"

I went to the TIO (Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (ie tel$tra's Bitch)) and asked them to fight it for me, as you know, they are supposed to be here for us, the consumer..

    their answer?

    You will never guess...

    oh ok, you got me....

"Sorry, your phone line is incapable of supporting DSL"

No one will tell me how it is that the previous tennant had it, and I am just pissed off with it all now.....

If I were you, I would just drink my coffee earlier in my routine, so that I stop my headache faster.

Seriously tho, if you buy High quality coffee (I buy mine here) , you will find you can go days without, and not get headaches. I drink the espresso supa crema - a very strong and dark blend - brilliant taste, and never get headaches from not having it.

    So to recap,

Drink Top Quality Beans like the espresso supa crema from those guys above

This will allow your body to adjust, and should allow you to get off of it easier.

Lets look at it this way,

maybe they are worried about possible future litigation from SCO, due to the fact that mayhaps their uber successfull game, by some mis-appropriation of SCO IP by the said ex SCO employee, now has SCO's SMP code in it, and now all the owners of this Game will have to fork out $1000 per CPU to play it.

    I would be worried too.

  9. A quiet thought..... on SCO Drops Linux, Says Current Vendors May Be Liable · · Score: 2, Insightful

Lets take a step back here for a minute.

We know that SCO has been selling Linux, and as such has been complying with their obligations under the GPL.

Would this not therefore imply that anyone who has purchased SCO's Linux incarnation would, accordingly have all the rights available to them under the GPL, and as such, as they have already released "Linux", all possible IP Claims for linux become null and void.

Or to put it in other words: Linux may have IP that is SCO's or not, however, the fact that SCO have sold Linux, and have licensed these releases under the GPL, then anyone who has purchased said releases may now re-release, accordingly.

I have been in this industry since the 1st cloned IBM box was delivered in Adelaide, South Australia.
It was delivered to my fathers business.
I was his "Computer Technician" from that point onwards.
    I built an ISP.
I Built a PC repair system
I manage networks of PC's around my town.
I even manage servers in the USA (from humble old Adelaide, SA).
I can fix problems that most lecturers at any of the "acreditation centers" anywhere would never have seen, or even heard about.
I have fixed problems that the manufacturer of the unit could not fix.
I have attended exactly 3 days of PC repair training in 16 years of PC repair work.
I currently run a business that has too many *stupid* rules and obligations with the gubment.
We spend more time collecting tax for them than working for ourselves.
any one who wants the government to regulate them should go get a job in an industry that can real cause pain and suffering to the customer if administered wrongly (BOFH's are not included :-P ).

I understand that some morons will try to set up shop, and pass themselves off as legit, however, IMNSHO, they dont get much work anyway. My business works because my customers love my staff, and what we do for them. They don't care for a piece of paper that tells them "somebody" in some gubment department somewhere thinks that the person who is named on said certificate might know a thing or two about pc's.

My business picks up more customers because of the service I give my existing customers.

Word of mouth babee - "These guys really know their stuff"

In my experience the certificates most people get are no indication of their true aptitude for the job.

They are fighting fire with fire, all we, as coders have to do, is to see the code, and we are now tainted, and can not legally implement a competing code base.

The same as if they use GPL code, it taints their talent pool, if we *see* their code, it taints ours.

I just keep coming back to the Mandrake installation.

Redhat is moving towards removing a lot of packages, and taking a minimalist approach to their distribution (ie, spend more $ for the more feature complete dist (ie inc powertools etc).

Whereas Mandrake just keeps getting better, and doesn't remove packages to a "seperate" pay for cd.

I *like* the way mandrake set up their distribution, and find it to be *faster* overall than the redhat dists.
