If the Z80's are only $1.50 like someone said that might be the ticket to some homebrew projects instead of using PICS.

Read my user info and you will see I am starting to do just that on old DOS and windows machines. Installing and supporting Linux for a few people to see what the main problems are for people who don't have any computer experience or very limited. We could add thousands of new Linux users overnight if every /.'r would install GNU/Linux on one machine for someone in return for that person doing the same within one year.I am getting ready to look at one machine that a 50 year old woman bought for her church and the pastor who was using it left. I am also helping a woman who is using a DOS app in a bussiness that is written in a DB languange and was given no user info for. I was thinking ...yea, I know what would work better here..except I told her to call the company and ask them everytime she had a question until they gave her some documentation. In a few months I should have a good grasp on what new users need for various apps.

No one loves the old ones more than me and the posts have given me some great ideas but let's not forget that there are new users everyday who are getting MS windows (basic) on their machines and start hacking around and then start saying "I need to get an assembler" and then when they find out how much it will cost will ask one of you old hands (wonder what the definition of that is now? maybe 25 years old? lol) what can I get to hack around with and you will ask them "Have you looked at Linux?" and they will be in their "golden age" of computing. Thank goodness that the 8 bit machines were that because having no net access meant if you wanted some info you had to call someone or go buy a book then get in vehicle and drive..I bet with net access you can do in a week what it took months to do back then. Sure was glad when those 300bps modems came out. I have said that since windows came out that folks who start with windows and use nothing else will be at a bad disadvantage. The virus troubles of late are good examples. Last night when I rebooted in Debian I remembered this article. I get the same pleasure out of Linux that I remember from the Commodore days. I'm not a windows basher. If I had to start a network with a ton of keypunchers I would probably link windows desktops to Debian servers.

I won't eat any commercial meat because of the methods used to raise and harvest it. The animals probably are not healthy to be eating but if they are..they are tortured long before they get the shot to the head. The transportation alone is inhumane. The importance of this is not to be underestimated. Large chunks of government
policy are designed to protect animals with emotive properties. As a classic comedy
routine went, "Sometimes I think the animals just all got in a line. 'What are you?' 'I'm
a seal.' 'You're cute, honk that horn, we'll make sure nobody beats you with a club.

I think the average geek is going to have more pain and suffering being mugged/burglarized/or smacked by a drunk driver than being targeted by the government. Next debate...gun control. Some spammers use a ton of common nicks and send it to all those nicks in a domain. So the isp you are reffering to probably sets up some dummy accounts with common nicks to catch "the spam wave." Not a bad idea really. Although I have only recieved one or two of these. The rest comes from my address being sold I guess from some things that I have signed up for. I quit my hotmail accounts because it wasn't anything but spam. Couldnt even find my mail in there.
