From what I recall, the GOTCHA! is that the key is duplicated to the iPod so it can play protected files. If I'm correct, it is from there that they encryption key is lifted and used by Hymn.
My undying gratitude to you, good sir. I've been on the fence on this topic for some time now and, at long last, having read your comments and seen your arguments for Abortion, US Law and Vegetarianism, I've made my decision.
I should also point out that it was your charm, wit and prowess at commanding the English vocabulary that helped me arrive at my long drawn conclusion...
Yes, and copyright may also, ultimately, lose. We won't know until all is said and done. The parent to which you replied was correct. Slavery held for a long time and Hitler certainly could have held out longer had he played his cards differently. The point being they were both wrong despite their majority support.
Ethically, I believe copyright to be valid but strongly support reform to make it more just and this crack-down is also, in my opinion, just.
I told mine that she could be the cause of a great deal of headache and wasted time for me. By demonstrating how many email addresses I could pull from her forwards, I told her that spammers can use all of those email addresses to clog up our inboxes and waste everyone's time.
I told her that if she came across a forward that was absolutely imperative that I see, she should either send it to just me alone with all names stripped, or see if her email program has a 'hide addresses if sent to a group' and turn that on.
I also told her that I'd be much happier getting a one line note that said 'I love you, son' instead of a cheesy joke or corny poem that takes up time and just compounds the problem.
In the end, she reacted positively because I communicated the problem and gave her viable, easy to understand solutions while showing her the importance of her actions.
Why should I care what an actor says about anything other than acting?
And ironic sig considering a programer is spouting off his views of government.
I think you, and those who have responded to you, are right in the belief that you should have a say in how the country is run. After all, it is (or is supposed to be) a 'of the people, by the people and for the people' and if some of those people want business regulated into playing fair with equipment they own, they should be justified in asking Government to step in and act on their behalf.
Not flaming, just trying to get you to open yourself up to other sides of the debate.

I know. Sad thing is, the mods won't see it and (really) no one will care or answer you.
It just seems to me that the method of communication on Slashdot is really twisted. I'm of the opinion that conversations should be held using the replies and that should someone desire a third party response, a plea for such can then be made.
Anyone else out there agree with this? Or do more AC's just wanna cuss up a storm for the sake of being dicks?

p.s. Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. And I meant no ill will.
Good point. And when computers start to operate themselves, they may feel free to use whichever language works best for them. Until then, we should use what works best for Humans!
have an agreement with family and friends to embedd a codeword in any document that contains a file attachment. It is usually a fairly esoteric work not likely to come up in casual conversation.
This isn't specific to the DMCA, but it's relevant.
There are collections of Shakespeare's works that are copyrighted. It is illegal to make duplications of these (unabridged and unaltered) writings....but Shakespeare is DEAD!...?!
There's more material than just the iTunes Music Store songs out there that this thought exercise applies to.
Waiting for just this one example to come to light so that we can test it in the court is a horrific idea. There have been a great many laws built and struck down on the very foundation of thought experiments. We don't need to 'wait 75 years after the authors...die' to test the validity of the DMCA. The fact is, it is unfair and unjust NOW!
You're STILL missing the point of the thought exercise. Yes, that collection would be copyrighted because they authored the collection (Don't get me started on how ridiculous THAT is!), but when that collection falls in to public domain, it is still illegal to break the encryption.
The DMCA currently makes no provision for encrypted works that have had their copyrights expire. There is simply a blanket 'Circumvention is illegal' language to the law. THAT is what the person you replied to was trying to articulate.

Care to back that up with facts?

They still have ocelot, puma, lion, leopard, asian leopard, mountain lion, white tiger, etc.
Not really. Puma has already been used.

knock parent up a notch with a shot of your spice weasles. The man bitch-slapped that stupid flame war down.
And because I believe in talking directly to whom I'm replying, damn good job on bringing actual intelligence to that idiodic debate.
fs
I saw the same thing, but it was on an old Green Acres episode (#053).
I think the creators of Green Acres should sue on the basis of Prior Art.

Actually, information wants to be anthropomorphized.
No, it doesn't.
It hates that.
fs
There are a lot of reasons I feel this way
Care to rattle a few off?

Well, you could talk to your Mom.
I told mine that she could be the cause of a great deal of headache and wasted time for me. By demonstrating how many email addresses I could pull from her forwards, I told her that spammers can use all of those email addresses to clog up our inboxes and waste everyone's time.

Maybe you can do that, too?
fs
You should check out SmartPlaylists.com for a few more ideas about how to shuffle some of those unplayed (or even favorite) songs.
I've found a few ideas there that I now use regularly.
fs
Might I add (from the brief at the top):
The lesson is clear: stay out of movie theaters and you won't get arrested.
No. The message is don't break the law and you won't get arrested!

I personally find it a little insulting when someone replies to me, yet addresses a third person.
fs
Personally, I'm dumbfounded, too. I just meant for it to be funny.

So...because I communicate like a human, I can't be a 'competent Computer Administrator.'
That sounds about on-par for Slashdot.

Antiquing?
fs
If someone releases it on the net, big deal, it's already out there in higher quality mp3 and vorbis formats.
I don't disagree with most of what you say, but let's leave fallacious arguments like this out. They don't help anybody.

Yes, they do have more frequent UPGRADES because it is a new system each time. Same as new versions of Windows.
The SP's of the windows world are the 10.x.x (note that second 'x') UPDATES in the Apple world and they are free. Every last one of them.
Really, this FUD should stop. Do your research, son.

That really should get up to +5 funny.
Oddly, he didn't realize that the flying Horse and Buggy was the 'for shits [sic] and giggles' and the zipper was a legitimate innovation.
How's digs? Still fighting the good fight?
