unless of course you don't care about blu-ray, or you don't care if a game has more than one disc (a lot of them used to, it wasn't a big deal), or if you want to do things like have custom soundtracks and chat across different games, etc etc Then some people might think it was an ok deal. The PS3 is a solid machine, but people care about different things. Whats important to you, is not necessarily important to me.

Actually, as mentioned above, the discovery is not about the monocytes exactly, but rather that the spleen hordes and dumps them when a trauma occurs. That abstract you quoted is talking about monocytes in general, and mentions the spleen in passing with the liver "and other parenchymal organs." We've known about the importance of monocytes for a long time and that the spleen was important to the immune system, just not exactly how it performed its function. So, yes, it's a new discovery.

The claim on the site is that the cylinders can harvest indirect and reflected light as well. Conventional panels only use direct light. Therefore a horizontal mount is optimum for these cylinders since they will receive some direct light any time of day while still receiving reflected and indirect light. They also show how you can cover vastly larger areas with their cells because of the way they are mounted and designed to handle wind loads. The increase in coverage should more than make up for any loss of direct light. Of course, all this assumes that they are not big fat liars.

I've read a lot of discussion about the a la carte pricing idea, and while the opinions vary, the basic premise does not. If cable companies were forced to offer a la carte pricing, why assume they would stop offering the bundles? Seems to me they could offer both. If there is only one or two channels that interest you, you could go a la carte cheaper. If you want more, and they are expensive channels, you could go with a bundle to save money. I don't see why forcing the CC to offer individual channels would preclude them from also offering the bundles.

You're right, you didn't say the movies were used....I almost rewrote that part of my post, but decided "bah humbug!" I was just saying that while Tolkien might not have approved of the movies, I think he would have been very pleased with the game. It seems to me that you're saying that JRRT would not have approved of any commercialization of his works, and I'm not sure I can agree with that. If he was truly in this for the art, and the art ALONE, he would never have published anything. Money was a factor, and I'm sure the millions he'd be making would convince him that some commercialization would be okay. To relate back to the topic some more, I'm simply saying that this game does a MUCH better job of adhering to JRRT's books and lore than the movies did. For that reason alone, the game is worth a look if you're a Tolkien fan.

  8. Actually.... on Lord of the Rings Online Review · · Score: 1

The developers used the books as reference material, not the movies. You can look up characters in the books that you interact with in the game. Not just Aragorn and Gandalf either, but hobbits that you never remembered. Tom Bombadil and his Lady are also in this with Tom even helping you out at one point. I think JRRT would be pleasantly surprised with the attention to detail that was put into this game.

In Voyager they were in a unique situation where they couldn't really go to a port, so I imagine the rules were relaxed for them.

Now I'm not saying that the EUM is right, but I do think that current science is guilty of many of the same things the EUM crowd has been accused of. 'Dark Matter' is just one example of modern science inventing something, with no basis on observed data, to explain observations that their own theories cannot. Just because a scientist is investigating things that aren't accepted by mainstream science, does not make him/her a crackpot. Galileo was also considered a crackpot and a heretic before other men of science finally checked on his theories, years later, and found them to be firmly based on observation and correct.

It is my understanding that there are currently TWO, completely different, models used to explain our universe today. Relativity to deal with all things large, and Quantum Mechanics for all things small. WHATEVER model that best explains the observed data, is the one to be used for a given event. If the EUM can better explain current observations, then it certainly deserves further, serious investigation by other, impartial, scientists.

Calling people crackpots, is not a very scientific way to behave. Makes you sound like a crackpot. :)
