    Wow, that is one dumb comment...
    All the Messenger Servers are run and paid for by Microsoft. That's right. They bought the hardware, pay the people to maintain them, pay the bandwidth fees and so on.
    They can do with their servers whatever they want to do: Turn them off, charge everybody for using them or paint them pink. Don't like pink servers? Switch to another service...
    Mailservers on the other hand are a) run by everybody on the net and b) at lots of places you have to pay to use them! *gasp*

    I mean come on, gimme me a break, I think there are some things wrong with Microsoft, but that's for sure not one of these things...

    Has anybody experience with (moderated) chats as a tool to communicate on special occasions between bosses and employees?
    For example to communicate important changes and news concerning the business. Using chats it would be easy to get a fast feedback on how changes are accepted throughout the company.
    p.s.: I'm the poster and I didn't use these [] brackets...

    Well, the USA seek that approval as long as they think tey might get ist. As soon as it's clear that this approval will not be granted, they act like Bin Laden -> without seeking permission from the UN.
    BTW: Saddam Hussein never tried to kill any US Citizen without beeing attacked from the US before. So your argument can only be used for Bin Laden. And do you really want to compare the USA with Bin Laden. I wouldn't (and I'm a critic when it comes to the foreign politics and policies of the USA)
    Don't forget: Saddam was good friend of the USA during the 80's an before...

    As somebody who's living in Germany: There is a 16% VAT on everything for years and years...(the only exception are food and other things you need to survive (sorry geeks, you don't need PCs to survive...)
    And that 13$ fee is discussed for eons (sp?) so nothing to see here, please move along...

    This is the single biggest annoyance imho. Why can't they just do it the Mac way? Put everything for one programm in a single directory and that's it. No more problems with installing, just copy the directory from CD to HD or from HD to HD and you're good to go.
    Add a small script to register file associations and maybe to add alink to the Startmenue and voila: Instant profit :-)
    Seriously, what's the problem with that? Save disk space by reusing components? Please, with 1$==1GB for Desktopsystems that shouldn't be a problem...

    Yes sure, but you have to change the water in a pool from time to time. Didn't you know that? Don't you change the water in your pool? That's disgusting. Or worse: Don't you have a pool? Where do you store your books? Are you illiterate? Or do you have a LOC? :-)

    On the other hand, your idea with the oven ist pretty slick too. You don't even need additional fuel. Books are wonderful fuel...

    Why yes, of course they dissolve after some time. But that means I have unlimited storage capacity... I can store as many books as I want to.

    Given enough time, I can store dozens of LOCs in one olympian pool :-)

    Well the data retrieval is a bummer but the storage capacity is great!

    Airbus A310: 46, with 7 on order

    Do you really believe that bullshit with FedEx being the only US (I asume you mean that by american?) carrier with Airbus planes in service?
    Most likely you mean the only US carrier besides United Airlines, US Airways, Jetblue, Northwest, American Airlines, United Parcel Service, Frontier, GECAS, ILFC, America West and most other US based carriers...

    go figure...

    Anyway, back on topic: Yeah, you're right, that's a case I didn't think of, but it sure as hell has happend to me.
    But I think they're talking about "good" code. Nothing against your CVS Second Edition but code like that is another (sad) story.
    I don't think that your experience is out of the ordinary. Been there done that. Not with CVS but just as bad as that.
    But you can be sure I have copies of everything that is in any way reusable or just interesting (well, in some cases it's just funny :-) read: my best endless loop and stuff like that).

    The most important tool to use GPL'ed software is not free, it's loaded with patents, it's closed source, etc. It's called a computer. You need one of these to create GPL'ed software...The tools are not really important to decide if some code is GPL'ed or not.

    I thinks it's really a shame, but the 12m class is long retired.
    Now they sail "Class America" / "America's Cup Class" boats.
    IIRR the last up with 12m boats must have been 1983, 1987 has been the "big boat" year and after that it's been AAC...

    Vendee Globe is a really tough race and I have the deepest respect for these boys and girls.
    But to be honest, I believe they're crazier then a mad dog :-)
    I've sailed lots of long distance races (as well as short tracks) but these solo-sailors are a very special breed.
    I mean, you have to have some kind of mental disorder to enjoy ocean racing in the first place, but all these french solo racers really scare me :-))

    ...I like to point out, that most sailors I know (that includes myself) are not really interested in the AC. There're races wchich are way more demanding, no matter if you look at the technology or the human efforts.
    Sure thing, these machines are really awesome, at least for 5 hours of consecutive sailing.
    But the the real thing, at least in my opinion, are long distance races.
    The Volvo Ocean Race, Cape Town - Rio, Jules Verne Trophy and so on.

    The greatest thing about the AC is not the real sailing but the High Tech Stuff that drips down to other races and classes.
