Why link to the crappy ad-laden SD times article and not to the actual GitHub project https://github.com/docker/dock...

You can try applying to NIST. Although it is not a corporation, it is an excellent research institution with an excellent guest researcher. It is mostly geared towards graduate student, but having five year degree from Europe is enough to get in. Speaking from my own experience, a stint at NIST will help you a lot in your future career.

besides firewire stack being slightly more expensive, the firewire hardware doesn't provide the power to the slave devices. So for simple things like mice / keyboards / thumb drives / card readers it is a killer. Personally, I'd take a slower speed over inconvenience of having to fumble with multiple cords, and lugging another wall cube around. USB even sprung up a whole market segment that uses the bus just for power ( lights, fans, aquariums, ash-trays, etc).

well, in case of the network drivers and remote attackers the situation is exactly opposite. The driver is the first thing that sees incoming packet from the network, so if it contains any buffer overflow vulnerability the attacker will get a chance to embed his code directely into the OS kernel without tripping any of the OS protection mechanisms.

This is true for both linux and windows, because on these systems all the drivers run with exactly the same privilige level as the kernel itself

As somebody who works very closely with SE linux I can say that you should first check your sources before making such statements. The main goal of the SE linux is to replace the DAC (discretionary access control ) security model of Linux with the MAC (mandatory access control) It has nothing to do with the fixing the security related bugs. Every bug that will get you root access on normal linux will get you a root access on SE Linux as well. But you will be better off with SE Linux since root doesn't have much power there.

  7. US Education on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: 5, Insightful

I did study mathematics in US and Russia and I can compare the qualtity of education. It seems that teachers in Russia (and probably the rest of europe) emphasize the understanding the underlying concepts of mathematical theories rather than methods of solving a particular problem. The american students were expecting that the problmes given on the exam are exactly the same that were covered in class, and were always complaining when the professor made even trivial changes in the problems. It could've been the quailty of the students in my particular university, but now I am working at the major government research organization and we get a lot of students coming for the internship in the summer, and it seems that people from europe are much better at solving problems that they never seen before. In these days ability to solve a known problems has almost zero value because it is something that could be done by a simple shell script. Although, sometimes I see US students who are very good at mathematics, those studends usually come from the better schools like MIT and Rice, but they tend to be self taught and usually say that they pretty much skip most of their classses regarding them as the complete waste of time, and I can't say that I disagree with that. This applies

Well going to New Delhi or some other cheaper place has an adavatage to taking course in the USA. Getting down to basic economics, the course itself is probably cheaper, so is the rent and living expenses. As for the quality of the course itself, last time I checked the certification exams are standardized so it should not matter which place you take it. I also think that the certificate itself doesn't even say that it was issued in New Dehli. So you don't even have to tell about it to your employer.

Well, but considering that most of the electornics is made in china. And that the China's market size for DVD players is comparable to the U.S. It won't be such a huge deal to convince manufacturers to adopt new chinese format. Also the chinese player won't be so much different, because the actual media and most of the physical aspects could be kept the same. And most of the changes would be in the firmware and DSP code. An additional incentive to the manufacturer would be an artifical separation of the market.
