My guess is it's a little of not wanting to take responsibility as you suggest, and a little of not really caring / thinking about how other people perceive you. Then again, why should you care, you likely learned at an early age you can't 'fit-in' no matter how hard you try, so why bother, you'll just get picked on. And who wants to appease those ass-hats anyway? The problem is you become so trained not to care that when you finally get a job working for the man, you don't care what he thinks either.... Neither you nor your employer want to admit you have a problem because you do 'good work' and conveniently there are these diseases that seem to explain your particular behavioral flaws. I was recently diagnosed with adult ADD and it seems like recognizing that I SHOULD care plays a bigger part in helping with my ADD than recognizing that I actually have a problem... I've known THAT for years.
I'm not sure if it was your intention, but your response seems to indicate that you think Al Gore is as equally un-qualified to speak about climate change as Palin. For the record, Gore at least studied in a climatology lab while at Harvard.
Just because the poster is unwilling void his warranty to make his phone useful and be price gouged by at&t by a mandated data plan just so he can get some of the worst 3G coverage in the nation hardly makes him an elitist; In fact, I would say he's just smarter / more fiscally responsible than you for using just what he needs with out paying for extra.
Have you seen a newer model Brother? They've come along way in the past couple years.... and are far more network compatible than the HPs I've tried. In the office we have 2 Brother printers and both work so flawlessly for scanning and printing with our mixed (Linux, Mac, Winblows) computing environment I'm considering one for home. Ironically, I stumbled on these printers accidentally after returning an incompatible multifunction HP, then a Dell, then a Samsung, even more suprising, the brother cost least of all of them!
Why would you use DVDs? just rip everything to a hard drive so that if there's ever a need for multiple clients to access it, your system doesn't freak out. What if you wanted to also display the content on the external web?
What do you mean fucked? There's plenty of wireless carriers that sell intenet access. If you are in a Metro area, sprint's speed can be quite competitive, and price-wise it's not bad to bump up to that level if you are already paying for a data plan on your phone. Plus there's always satellite internet.
The writing is on the wall for wired connections. DTV signals often are more clear than cable (due to cable's compression) and people are already canceling their land lines because they prefer to keep a cell phone.
This is available via AndNav and OpenStreet Maps via Open Route Service. Sadly, development for USA navigation has been slow or non-existent despite my donation to the project.
This has already been done in the AndNav1 project. Unfortunately, due to licensing terms google forced them to stop development. Now they are useing open street map instead.
Since we the taxpayers are paying for National Public Radio, shouldn't all their productions be considered public domain, or at least open-licensed, under U.S. Congressional law?
By that logic, all government funded research and drug discovery should be considered public domain as well....
I understand that they are trying to make a point about applying fair-use across the board. But you'd think they'd choose something other than NPR trying to mute gay bashes as an example. It's like trying to get bees with vinegar.
PS. here's the censored youtube clip incase you were wondering what was actually said.
So which is it? Are you pissed he didn't tell you there was a slim chance because he was "certain" you didn't have it? or did he do the right thing just because he countered his statement saying to come back if you feel worse?
If i were a poor immigrant, and I just coughed up a large sum of money for a Dr visit and and tells me he's "certain" I don't have the bad kind of meningitis, do you really think I'm going to come back when I feel a bit worse?
....strange that my assessment of the situation is modded a troll while your self contradicting statement gets modded "insightful"
I don't claim to be an expert, but I do understand that there is a large difference between being "certain" and "almost certain" when it comes to a medical diagnosis.
This is yet another reason the health care system is broken. To get an MDs you only need to memorize and regurgitate little application of science or statistics. Beyond the mess of the efficacy of the vaccine, patients are given false information all the time. FTA (a doctor diagnosing meningitis):
There is a tiny chance, says Newman, that the illness is caused by a bacterium, which can be deadly, but he is almost positive that’s not what the tourist has. He says to his patient, “I can’t tell you with 100 percent certainty that you don’t have it...
He's not 100 percent certain, yet he tells the patent that anyway!?! How f-ed up is that? Is it any wonder heath insurance cost so much with all the malpractice going on? Malpractice suits don't even help. MDs are insured and only have to spend a few days in court if some one calls them out on it then if they are proven wrong the Hospital insurance takes the fall and all our costs go up while the MDs pay stays the same. What we really need to do is hold each physician criminally responsible for what they say and do in a clinical setting.
Anyone else wish they could read the actual publication? It's sad considering this is partly taxpayer funded and given the NIH's and Harvard's push toward open access that the authors didn't choose a more accessible journal for such a groundbreaking piece of work.
- Cremation and mixed with Iron to make a steel structure (preferably something linked to my life mission)
- Cremation and remains sent to space (or the Moon or Mars)
I'm cheap and idealistic, so I'll leaning most toward the first, but the other 2 do appeal to my inner geek, in all cases I'd still remain an organ donor.
My reply was more in jest of the/. article than the actual functionality of the iPhone, but I'll reply with a few clairfications:
I actually didn't know that there are fee apps for the iPhone as all of the drones around me seem to pay for all their apps, so I'm a little less confused why people would actually choose an iPhone - thanks
You may have turn by turn, but the $99 version of the iPhone, to my knowledge, is with out an actual GPS receiver, therefore making turn by turn rather useless if you are a block over. The for pay apps completely replace a store bought GPS. The for free option has a poor visual map, but voice-wise is better than any in-store version, to the point where I never need to look at a map (but can just use google maps if I do).
The bulkiness of the G1 is due to the inclusion of a keyboard; the G2 is with out it, but I find the bulk, as with a pocket knife, is more than made up for in utility.
Despite not having to pay for apps, most users do pay an extra $20 a month over t-mobile for their iphone plan, not to say that at&t doesn't have better coverage, they just don't have $20 a month better coverage imho.
60 cents per Kw hr? Not even close according to the department of energy.
Perhaps the electric company read your sig and are hastily taking their time to correct your bill?

Actually the free-runner is currently selling for $250. So my guess would be it costs even less to make.

Hunh? Who said Android isn't multitouch?
Too bad for AT&T I'm an iPhone and iDon't do DTN.
Other than that I'm not sure what's so hard about your project. Where I use to work had a museum, and they set something up something similar using multiple large flat-panels displays linked to one another with several remote controls for user interaction. If you contact them I'm sure they'd be willing to share some insights.

Parent is trolling; Fox has an extensive history of censorship.
oops, messed up the html; here's the link.

whoah, I gotta stop replying to Slashdot articles when I am cracked out tired! I read "can't" as "can"! At least that explains the mod.

I guess I'll have to wait the 12 months as per the NIH policy.

I still have my HP48G (sitting right in front of me). I can't stand working with non-RPN calcuators.
