All right, makes sense, to each their own. So how many a times have you been spammed by NetFlix ?
However, again, I don't recall ever getting unsolicited e-mails from Netflix to any one of my several e-mail accounts that I use. Anyhow, being that I'm a an avid movie fan, the convenience offered by NetFlix far superceeds their conduct as a potential small time spammer. If NetFlix spam was a one time thing only, then it's a bit too anal to stop oneself from enjoying what NetFlix has to offer otherwise in real life... Now if NetFlix were to be spewing spam on regular basis, yeah, in that case, I'd first report my annoyance to them, before shunning them totally out just because of a single SPAM that was sent years ago!
I have been a NetFlix subscriber for over 4 years, and plan to stay with NetFlix unless there is an overwhelming reason not to, and don't recall ever receiving spam from them. Plus, the Spam-Whine is dated 2002, and has not been updated since, so who cares!
hehehehehe to answer the original question! I plan to give 256MB bootable USB drives to my computer savy friends ($20ish x 6 is not a bad investment) and family. Nice way to introduce Linux if you don't like what you see, no problem, re-format the USB drive and use the drive for whatever.....
I currently use a hacked/customized version of Slax see Slax. I carry it on a 1GB USB Drive that includes customized versions of Firefox, Thuderbird and Samba plus many more modules. So far this setup has been truly convenient for me. On occasions when I find myself without a laptop but near a PC that is able to boot USB drives (I have yet to come across a PC that did not), all I do is stick the drive in the USB port, boot up in trimmed down KDE environment, use FireFox to check Yahoo/Gmail/Hotmail accounts, and Thunderbird to poll my personal domain accounts. Once done, reboot, voila, no cookies etc. left behind. No need for someone to log-on to their pre-installed OS accounts, nor to suffer the embarrassment of accidental viewing of history list of pr0n sites that the person had surfed last....:D
Same here... use bluetooth to sync up my iPAQ 2215 both, at home, and at work... now only if were able to charge the darn thing wirelessly as well... then I'd have NO cabling mess to worry about on/around my desk... I use Epox BT dongles with the iPAQ... so far it's been a blessing...
I also own a Sony DSCFX77 digicam... which supports bluetooth transfers to the PC (Sony's bluetooth dongle supports only WinXP for now though)... not the speediest of the transfers... but very convenient though... does not drain battery as much either... unlike the wifi...
Apparently, the bullet markings are more unique, along the lines of human fingerprints, in nature than are tire marks etc. Probability of tracking a gun with a fingerprinted bullet is obviously a great deal higher than tracking a car by its tire marks. Not only that, one can easily replace the tires than can alter the barrel of gun...
Exactly, is what I found myself thinking while reading about how GWB, JA, and NRA have refused to allow making any common sense changes to the current gun-registration laws. Kinda ironic, that I have to not only register, but to also insure my POS car! Where as after, merely, a background check, no tests etc. needed, I can walk away with a potentially lethal weapon!! Scary!
While some moron out there in NRA country Virginia/DC is busy target practicing on REAL people, our GEE-DUBYA, about to add Iraq to his crown, thinks that it's the broken laws that concern him more than the gun being used as a weapon, huh?, which BTW might or might not be registered...! Ugh! Must stop ranting!
"I'm glad I live in a country where the ACLU can criticize me and vigorously debate the issues," Ashcroft says. "I consider it my job as attorney general to make sure that this and all our freedoms endure."
My take on this statement is of a cynic. Ashcroft, the divinely inspired AG of US of A, reeks of hypocisy here. If he were that concerned about the preservation of our *freedoms*, why is then that he is suggesting citizen spying schemes such as TIPS? why is that Patriot Act was rushed through the house and the senate? Why is it that he's hell bent on protecting the 2nd amendment, right to carry/own a machine gun so to protect your house, but yet has all begun chipping away the protections of the 4th?
It's about time that patriotism is applied where truly needed: i.e. protection of the good will of the ideals of the framers of the constitution of US of A.
Considering myself an audiophile, minus the 1000's of $$ equipment, I am in favor of any new multi channel format, whether DVD-A or SACD.
Currently, stereo recordings of music just does not cut it for me. And, no, the digital efx supported by some of the receivers doesn't count either! Personally, I enjoy listening to music recordings in DVD-A format than the regular two channel stereo format. Natalie Merchant's DVD-A release of Tigerlily, and John Coltrane's Blue Train, sounds amazing! Thanks to the recent release of cheaper DVD players, I was finally able to buy a DVD-A capable DVD player (JVC XV-SA75GD). Hopefully, this will further propel quick releases of albums in this format, followed also by a price drop of the media as well....:D
With the new player, I can watch DVD movies, play MP3s, listen to regular CDs, and of course enjoy the multi-channel recordings of Beethoven, Mahler, and Orff....
Of course, in time, as these formats make inroads into the consumer market, software tools of all sorts will also soon follow... It took quite many years, after the release of current CD technology, before a consumer was able to rip MP3s etc. off the CDs....
My Linux addiction began with Yaggdrasil (spell?) back in 94, followed then quickly by Slackware 2.0... Been a Slacker since. All my servers are Slacked... However, just so to also stay in touch with the "masses", on one of my laptop I have installed RedHat 8 (using for this post), and Mandrake on the other... If it were not for Slackware, I would never have dared installing another distro. Nor would I have dared with other Ux-es: AIX, hp-ux, Solaris, and SCO.
Thanks Slack for getting me off the WinDoze bandwagon.... now only if distro to distro upgarding could become a bit simpler.....;)
Liberals always forget where the REAL women's rights movement started...the Bible. If it wasn't for Christians women would have zero rights. One of the reasons the Christian church was persecuted was for the freedom it gave women. It's called history, try checking it out sometime.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with the Liberals telling us that we can't ever give anyone a bad grade because that might "hurt their feelings."

However, the funny thing was, that after the interview, the hiring manager told me that since I had arrived late for the interview, they'd consider someone else instead...:) I was completely dumbfounded! While at the same time some other group within Adobe had made me an offer....
Walking through Adobe hallways, 9th floor, gave me a creepy sort of feeling, the kind of way I felt after having watched Brazil the movie!
I just ordered my SliMP3 last night. Had looked into several such do hickies, but given the ease of use and open source roots, along with a slick enough look, nothing could compare with it for me. I mean how cool would it be to be able to attach a WiFi bridge thingy and stream MP3 from my Linux box!! I can't wait to get mine delivered!!
Try CD-MP3 player from Philips, I have the Expanium 301 model... this thing, like similar players mentioned in other replies, has been the MOST practical MP3 solution for myself. I also own a Rio 500 MP3 player, which I no longer use.... Here are the reasons why I absolutly love this thing:
- Very Practical: can play both MP3s and the CDs, this way I don't have to wait to either find a CD player to play the cd, or rip MP3, then xfer it to the player.
- Storage Capacity/Cost:
I have been re-cycling a single CDR-W for months.... it takes me literally minutes to burn upto 130+ 160kbps encoded MP3s. CDR-Ws are cheap!
- Battery life: The battery life for my Philips player has averaged just a little under 9 hours...
- Skip protection: Excellent! The best ever experienced with CD Players.... not sure about HDD based players though.... but this thing has never skipped... I have dropped it several times on our hardwood floor at home.... at the airport, on the street, and this thing just kept on playing, w/o missing a beat...
- Cost effective: The player cost me $89.00 + CA Tax no upgrades needed, no memory backups, or cables to worry about...
If you like Bricolage, you oughta listen, if haven't already, to his earlier album "Adventures In Foam" released under the moniker CUJO....
Amon is even funner to experience live!
If you're into Talvin Singh like stuff, you MUST then check out his peer group out of UK called Black Star Liner. Their album "Yemen Cutta Collection" and a remixed verion "Twelve Inch Confrontation Mix" are my all time favorite Electronica album!
