What is the difference between the mac and windows version? On my iBook it seems exactly the same, the same annoying nag screen asking you to upgrade to quicktime pro, as well as the inability to play in full screen mode included.
I just use video lan client or mplayer osx.
Its not disabled by default, if you go to a mozilla browser extensions site, or a mozilla theme site, you will notice that upon clicking the "install" link (as it is usually labelled), a dialog box will appear asking if you wish to install this item.
This is similar behaviour to IE, heres an example link to "BannerBlind" (which attempts to remove ad banners via style sheets).

Being a long time player of Ultima Online (the other crack alternate) I can say that in UO rares are a huge thing, people will pay ridiculous amounts of money for anything rare so they can showcase their "r33tness".
Of what sort the item is, is often irrelevent, such as one very sought after item, "horse dung". There are thousands of rare or unique items that people dedicate themselves to collecting for decorations in their house, or possibly to wear.
For the most part it boils down to a show of power and wealth. Although some would buy for purely the "cool" effect of it. Most of the rares collecters in game though are fairly snobby and elitest.
Yeah, I have thousands of mame roms stored away on my cds:). Plus a load of snes roms and a load of amiga roms.
And then I have ePSXe (the best playstation emulator) to play my psx cdroms.
So all you need it zsnes, xmame, ePSXe and uae and youre sorted:).
Although im not quite sure, I would imagine the reason for the delay after an incorrect login would be to hamper the efforts of anyone purely guessing passwords, or forcing their way in with with some form of cracking tool.
I personally would not think it such a fantastic idea. If you are displeased with the lack of stability in Windows 95/98 or ME but cannot afford to upgrade to XP then perhaps it would be a viable option. But, Windows is still much easier despite various Linux vendors attemps to make Linux run just like Windows. Perhaps in the future, but I have family who I have tried to indoctrinate into the ways of linux, and although they like it I generally end up acting in a technical support role to sort out any problems they may have, and invariably if im not there to help them they get quite frustrated with it.
In my opinion the reason to migrate to linux is for power, control and flexibility. Although linux is making way in the desktop scene, at the moment, It remains quite difficult to use in general; the terminal is often unavoidable.
And if you truly are interested in going to linux, I would recommend going to (as someone suggested) Mandrake, SuSe or Redhat (these cater to people new to linux but they do not try to emulate windows). Lindows and these other truly "desktop" related distributions merely try to emulate windows.
Essentially, to an "average" user, it is Windows 2k/XP stability (arguebly more so), with much less choice in applications and incapable of playing most games, although with a cheaper price tag. The average user will not notice nor appreciate or be able to use linux's extreme configurability, power, security or open endedness. Which is a shame.
Quite obviously these machines have extremely cheap hardware. I wonder if this will be detriment to peoples opinion of the stability of linux?
A stable operating system coupled with cheap hardware will consequently lose a measure of its stability, a factor often cited as one of the main reasons for the adoption of linux.
Could this affect linux negatively?
I havent installed Mandrake since version 8.1, however, from what I recall (in fact from what I know), you could select packages either by their general type (such as development, games ect) or you could select them by individual package (although you may have have to install in "expert" mode when it prompts you).
You also could do a text based installation, but I never used it.
iBooks have used IBM G3 chips for a while now.
"The world needs a free video codec" Xvid is free, and rather good.

It has a playlist, and has had for as long as I remember. Its on the right click menu, just above the "Skin Browser" option.

It doesnt appear to be in the fink database, but i'd imagine you could compile it on the mac with some fiddling.

How true! Emacs doesn't even boast a Paperclip
