And the reviewing panel would probably do a great job for 2 months or so... and then they push back against crap code (because it would be harder to detect trojans in it if you can't tell what the heck it is doing) and then the developers would push back because the panel isn't supposed to comment on their code, just certify it as trojan free. Then they would either stop being a clearing house or would approve an app with a trojan in it, and by this time everyone would have just purchased an iPhone.
I'm always surprised by this argument. Most of the rest of the money goes to working stiffs, most of whom are in IT making the transactions possible. I guess the Slashdot IT people don't like getting paid.
Just because you don't like the middle man doesn't mean that you don't need him, or are not him.
The claim was that apple was charging "everybody for everything." In point of fact, icloud is a thing, and when I use it, I will not be charged. The claim is wrong. QED.
They used to charge for mobile me, it didn't work well, but people paid for it anyways. icloud does the same stuff and more.
They obviously could have charged for icloud if they wanted to, but they didn't. Keep in mind, I'm arguing against, "Apple seems to be big on money grabbing from everybody for everything lately." I'd say that lately, they are not into that.
Lion is "just an update"? airdrop, autosave, versions, resume, customizable gestures are all new.
But isn't airdrop really stupid? Yes, you could do this on any unix box, but it would probably take you about 5 minutes to setup and get working correctly. Even then, other users would have to disconnect from the wifi they were using to connect to your wifi and dl the file and then reconnect. What a pain. Why do that? But here it just works, you stay connected to your wifi and you can use my wifi ftp like service at the same time. Don't hate it because it is beautiful.
fourth is obvious, a the magnetic rod in the middle would deflect plasma (and it would have to be magnetic to keep form getting eaten by the plasma). Even you solved your objection after that.
Apple is getting macs to work on A5s... who cares? We all know they have a fully functioning OS X working on x86 and ARM/Power architectures in their labs right now, they have since OS X started, why stop?
They would get to charge 30% for software: yeah, they already get that in the Mac App store. All software is also cheeper there, so it is a no brainer if you have the internet connection that you want to buy it on the store where you cutout all the costs of creating and moving a physical item to you.
This is called a thin client, and nobody likes them. It is a great idea until the server is down for the day before your project is due, or until the server gets slow every day from 1 PM to 6 PM.
Because if Apple allowed a compiler / interpreter in iOS, then the whole closed system would no longer be closed. If you can compile, it is the same as the current OS X.
I got it from appleinsider's (now removed) install instructions which stated that a Lion install does not require a reboot. Sadly, the removed the file and updated it.
Name one. I'm guessing it is just an improvement on an existing feature. Apple already has file sharing built in, this new one is probably just easier to use.
Look, I've had system wide native pdf, spell check in every application for about 10 years, AFAIR, Windows 7 is the first Windows with those features and the pdf is not nearly as easy to implement for developers.
There is also the fact that the Apple version just works. When you install Windows 7 or a new Linux kernel, do you have to restart? Why? OS X Lion don't require that.
I'm just realizing, for lots of iTunes users, Apple already has their catalog information.
If the RIAA is after you, it is because (they think) you are not a customer.

No, it doesn't even get uploaded. It is probably based on just the meta data.
This will not happen.
News flash: Steve Jobs is very, very good at business.
Getting your clients sued for 100 times their net worth is very, very, very bad for business.
QED.

huge WHOOSH
So windows before 2000 was not just bug fixes, and afterwords is not just new clothes on the same OS? You could have fooled me.
The claim was that apple was charging "everybody for everything." In point of fact, icloud is a thing, and when I use it, I will not be charged. The claim is wrong. QED.
5 GB free, plus all purchased items. It also includes all the capabilities of mobile me which was $99/year.

tip: google Karl Popper.
I think you forgot to read the summary.
Yeah, look at the exorbitant fees they are charging for iCloud ($0) and for Lion ($29). It's just ridiculous.
Unfortunate? This is the chum that keeps the Apple haters coming back. They just know their audience.
Unless the connection to the internet is out. There is also the possibility of an update that breaks the client.
BTW, looks like Ksplice isn't in there out of the box, i.e. it is another thing you have to buy/maintain.
The evidence is BS.

harumph. It was on appleinsider's page, but now they updated it and it is gone.
