Except that it is a sequel to Jedi Knight, which basically did the same thing; allowing you to choose the dark or light path. In fact, Jedi Knight actually did it better in a lot of ways, in that you would lose the forces powers of the side you didn't choose.

You wrote that story?!? I remember it very well and still have that issue somewhere. I was trying to find it when I read this article just now. It was a good story, and truly a prophetic idea. You should have gotten a patent. :)

You don't think the skills you use in FPS games will be no help at all in real life? I have to disagree, I think there are several things that can be transfered. Take the idea of mulitiple shot firing. Most people put in a real situation will either fire one shot and stop or fire their whole clip at a target regardless of its status. Playing video games teaches you that firing in small batches is a very effective way to kill something while controlling ammunition (and is taught by the military for that reason), and that once a target is down you can stop firing. Leading your target if they are moving is another thing that games can teach you to do well. Games can make you much better at pattern recognition and evaluation for targets, shooting multiple targets, and switching targets fast.

I had never picked up a gun until several years ago, and when I did I found I was actually quite good at it on the first day. I attribute that to, at least in part, years of video games playing. There is a reason that the military is starting to use video games as training devices for their troops, they do help you with certain skills involved in combat situations.

While I agree that this guy is a moron, and that there is certainly a lot of the physical aspect of gun training that video games will not help you with, I do not think you can completely discount the training aspects of video game use.

Actually, based on the comment timestamps, Slahsdot appears to have beaten Fark by about half an hour. But I think we can safely say that both helped.

Fark and Slashdot are both dangerous enough on their own, together they are a tag team match of server death and destruction.

Hardly. Beavis and Butthead was fart jokes and slapstick. Tucker Max is well written and sarcastic. Yes, it is mean, and he really does some stupid things, and he is certainly an asshole as he admits many times, but the humor is quite a different kind than B&B, and quite funny. I read a huge chunk of his site today and getting quite a few chuckles. Seriously, check out some of his stories.

    >floppy drives/syquest drives were never really known for their reliability either Change that to magnetic media in general, and you will be right on. All magnetic medium has a problem with the chemicals in it breaking down, but tape is actually a less reliable medium than floppy disks, because of the danger of stretching as well, and the fact that every time it is read the tape head has to come into contact with the surface. Play some of your old 80s audio tapes and see how well they do. To say that CD-Rs are less reliable is ludicrous. I will never again use magnetic media for long term storage.

Didn't the fact they were asking you to turn it over to them ring any alarm bells? Well, anyway, he is not screwed yet. I suspect he will get at least some of his money from the suit mentioned in the last paragraph.
