I use 'denyhosts' which actively monitors and blacklists based on failed login attempts.
I usually set it to ban anyone that tries to login as root more than once since root logins are disabled anyway no one should be trying that. And to ban anyone trying to login as an unknown user. Valid users are allowed a lot more leeway, 10 retries I think.
They probably using a "Mortality" number that is based on the people that are already sick.
"Mortality of those With Influenza" => Number of people that are ALREADY sick, that DIE from the disease
"Incidence" => Number of people that ACQUIRE the disease.
If you vaccinate people you reduce the number that are infected, but those that get infected anyway still have the same risk of dying. This DOES NOT mean the vaccine is ineffective, you are still reducing the number of infections in the general population and hence removing them from the risk of dying from that disease. So the "Mortality rate" is not affected but the "Incidence Rate" IS affected by around 50-60% (IIRC) which is significant.
There's also something called "herd immunity" which basically means that if a lot of people around you are immune and you are not immune your chances of acquiring the disease are lower since your peers cannot transmit it to you. So if you make enough people immune to a certain disease the rate of infection drops a lot more than you would expect, the reverse is also true... if people stop using vaccines ( say for Measels ) the risk of large outbreaks increases significantly.
How about this: - Use LVM on every node to make the 2TB seem like a single disk ( Assume 4 x 500GB disks ) - Use iSCSI/AoE to make the LVM volumes available on the network - Use LVM again to merge exported volumes - For redundancy use software raid 5 on the lvm volumes
I suspect there will be a lot of problems with efficiency but I think you should be relatively safe from hardware failures as the software raid will detect and repair them.
Anyone have any idea whether what i mention is possible/recomended?
BTW, I am not sure that evolution is incompatible with the idea of "intelligent design" as long as one is careful about defining intelligent design....
The way I view ID is that the "design" comes from the initial conditions of the system. So once you set things up you just let evolution do the rest.
So, as the parent noted, I believe evolution and creationism are not incompatible.
When I was in Europe this summer, I crashed several ATMs (usually of the same branch) just by inserting my card, and guess what they all run some version of windows, it looked like 95/98/2000.
Aparently they dont like the way my card is encoded.
It was very annoying trying to find a bank where I could withdraw money from. At one point we we're joking around to see how many ATMs we could crash in one day.
They actually changed the naming format for files on the pod, my guess is that MM just cant handle the new firmware/directory structure. They may have even changed the DB on the iPod as well but I havent checked.
OTOH I really hate MM, so I never used it and cant attest to the problems you might experience with it.
I think you should read the GPL one more time, especially the part where it specifies what happens if the license is ever invalidated.
It reverts back to the original copyright holder.
Even if you argue that the whole of the GPL is invalid including the statement previously mentioned, US copyright law states that any original work which does not include any specific license is protected by copyright.
In other words unless the work is EXPLICITLY put in the public domain it it copyrighted by the original authors.
I just checked and the style sheets seem to have been fixed. Now opera gets served the same style sheet as MSIE, I did not look further into the files to see if they have some other trickery in them.
Also as everyone knows it is a really simple matter to mess up the web site at some later date when this boils over, but for now the problems seems to be solved.

Maybe Linus should skip version 2.7

In our car, an Envoy, if you pull the fuse you lose HomeLink, which is the programable garage door opener thats integrated into the car.
Nothing too bad, but I thought I'd mention it.
Most but not all, my crappy ( or maybe good? ) ISP changed IP's about every 4 hours...
Then you have the issue of making sure the logs from the **IA are synched properly to the logs from the ISP, for example Daylight Savings, etc...
If you can prove that the accuracy of the logs is suspect I doubt they can prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt.
Oh did I mention IANAL....
RTFA its right there.... 8th paragraph: One terabyte is equal to 1 trillion bytes of data. One gigabyte equals 1 billion bytes.
Actually its closer to:
(1 000 000 000 000 Bytes) / (19.2 (megabit / second)) = 110.378972 hours
Remember, their measure of 1Tb is a trillion bytes not 2^40 bytes.
Does anyone else read Klutztown everytime they see Kutztown?
It was actually filed on april 6, 1987, that means it should have expired april 6, 2004.
However this does not mean anything to lawyers, they'll probably claim the infringement was before it expired and sue anyways...
IANAL so I have no idea if this is possible, but I wouldn't put it past them.

I am sure THIS will be worked out in due course.

I wonder what advantages the washing machine provides? Secrecy?
oops this was supposed to go under:
Computer Junk Mail ( next comment )
one word comes to mind:
FORMAT
remember all those floppies that they sent? I, like almost every other geek I know, would format them give them some pratical use.
kinda reminds me of the old saying:
