  1. Yeah, Right... on Financial Responsibility == Terrorism? · · Score: 1

Capitol Hill Blue is never very reliable, this is the same place that claims to have 'classified reports' from the US Secret Service saying that Cheney was in fact drunk when he accidentally shot Mr. Magoo. While that is still up for debate, if said reports do exists one would think that they would have been better publicized?

How is your internet connection? What types of connections are available to people in your area? Are there wireless access points in the city in which you live and if so are they set up by an ISP, are they free? Are there datacenters in Jordan and if so how stable is thier connection and what kind of bandwidth do they have? I really know little about the Middle East but I can't imagine there is miles of fiber running across it like North America or Europe.

  11. Penn & Teller Bullshit on Genetically-Modified Everything · · Score: 4, Informative
Penn & Teller (the magicians) have a show on the Showtime network called "Bullshit" in which they take a topic and explain how it either doesn't make sense or needs to be changed. One of the shows covers genetically modified foods and the people that are against them. It's very interesting to learn what people think about genetically modified food and the facts of it. For anyone interested I suggest you check the show out.

Basically, the show says that the people against genetically modified food don't know the facts and say that it isn't monitored by government agencies, while it is infact monitored by the FDA and EPA. Furthermore, genetically modified foods are solving the problem of world hunger by producing more output per area and being more resilliant in harsh climates.

Personally, I believe genetically modified plants are required to sustain life on earth with our current population.

  12. DMCA borders on Unconstitutionality on Supreme Court Rejects RIAA Appeal · · Score: 4, Interesting

The Digital Millenium Copywrite act can be viewed as unconstitutional. I'm glad the supreme court is finally taking the correct steps to defend the individual's liberties in this country instead of the usual practice of protecting large firms profits (merly because those firms have too much say in our government because of the money they put into it). Hopefully this will bring an end to frivilous lawsuits against people that are mere pawns in the scheme of warez and piracy. Personally, I would rather see the RIAA spend some of thier resources in ensuring better music is being produced instead of the formulized crap they are turning out currently.

I have owned a rio kharma for about a year now (got one when they first came out). I had to have it RMAed about 2 months after I got it because the HD failed, other than that I love it. OGG format on it is the best and the built-in playlist features can't be beat. Also, the docking cradle which sits on my desk glows to the beat of the music. The other thing that is great about the Kharma is it has both USB and Ethernet connectivity through its docking cradle so friends on your network can drop songs directly onto it.

Things I don't like about the Kharma is the software utility, it takes forever to add music to the browser.

  14. Disreguard the first section of my Comment. on BBC Wants Help With Dirac Codec · · Score: 1

I'm tired and wasn't paying much attention to the article, didn't notice the big words OPEN SOURCE, so yeah, sleep... Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the BBC tried to liscense and/or sell this codec much in the same way that Red Hat sells linux.

  15. BBC + Codec = Not Free on BBC Wants Help With Dirac Codec · · Score: 0, Troll
I'm sure this codec is a great idea, but I'm also sure there is a free equivlent to it that makes alot more sense. The BBC, just like any other rational business, is out to make money off of this while the rest of the world could benifit greatly from it. Then again, the current codec situation isn't that peachy. Divx, one of the more popular codecs is packaged with spyware up the wazoo and has been for sometime.

Furthermore, if and when the BBC has a working codec will they be held responsible for copywrited material translated into it? I'd like to see the outcome from a lawsuit between the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and the BBC reguarding thier codec being used as a good way to view movies.

  16. Re:nope on Will VoIP Kill the PBX? · · Score: 1

FBI wiretapping requirements are going to have to be resolved sometime soon, and eventually a system will be invented where they can monitor VOIP calls. At that time I'm sure VOIP will be taking off more than it is now. It seems that currently businesses are hesitant to get into the frenzy because of all the upfront costs.

  17. Re:Yes on Will VoIP Kill the PBX? · · Score: 1

As the anonymouse coward pointed out, the amount of bandwidth needed to carry a simple phone call is nothing. Furthermore, the people that would be using this service the most would not be the general public, it would be large businesses. Most if not all of the large business in this country already have sufficient bandwidth available to use for this, and if they didn't upgrading thier current systems would not be all that costly, especially with the money they would be saving down the road. Also, you infer that we cannot reliably carry traffic, what I meant when I said the infastructure is already there is that cable is already laid across the US to carry this traffic. It is just a matter of buying/leasing bandwidth on these lines.

  18. Yes on Will VoIP Kill the PBX? · · Score: 2, Interesting

The infastructure is already there, the quality is the same and can be better, and the price is much cheaper, not to mention more services running over the same lines cuts costs and increases the convience of maintnence. However, relying to much on a system based completly on VOIP could cause outages without the proper redundancy. Also, phreakers would be sad, either that or they would just become hackers...
