What I do have a problem with, are hypocrites. Supposedly Moore (the millionaire), doesn't care about making money from his films... he's just that passionate. In fact, it's said that he doesn't mind people pirating his films, so long as his message gets to as many people as possible. So check out http://www.moorewatch.com/ Where you can find a torrent. For those who support him and believe what he says... add legitimacy to his film by taking it out of the realm of commercialism. For those who don't like him or his causes, exercise your ability to see the film so you can comment... but without putting more cash in Moore's pocket.

Yeah, I could move... but SAMI owns almost all of the apartment buildings near the campus, and the rest are owned by a company that uses the same ISP. They also bundle the service in the rent. I can't afford to buy a house around here. I probably should have mentioned that in the first post. And to the guy who said I shouldn't have signed the TOS... either they would have shut off my internet and charged me the same amount of rent, or not let me move in. One or the other.

I live off the Illinois State University campus. However, our rental company "SAMI", has (best we can tell) chosen to use the same provider for our network access. They require us to use McAfee's antivirus, and will shut us off in the event of infection. They have posted signs everywhere prohibiting the use of routers with or without wireless access. This boggles my mind, as you'd think they would have wanted us to have the hardware firewalls. Worse than the fact that our DSL is ridiculously slow, they have firewalled off our filesharing (apparently permanently). The best part is, the cost of the DSL is bundled into my rent... so I can't opt to get rid of it and get a cable modem instead. If I get a cable modem, I will effectively be paying something like $100 a month for connectivity. I'd write letters to the local papers complaining, but they have the right to shut off our internet for no reason (signed the TOS sheet, bleh). If they shut me off, I get to keep paying for the internet I can't use because it's technically paid for by the rent I agreed to pay. That would be somewhat similar to ~ 2 months of downtime I had a couple semesters ago, where I had to keep paying the same amount of rent.

That entices people to use a really slick, functional OS, even if only to get to the game. If you put it on a knoppix cd, people will begin to get over the idea that linux is super difficult to use.

Perhaps the OS is actually just a smaller target for security threats... so call me pragmatic. Makes me want to choose linux.

I installed my distro to nearly exactly where it is now in about 20 minutes. It runs faster, looks prettier, costs less, does everything I ever do on a windows system, and requires less work to get it moving the way I want. Call me lazy...

Makes me want to choose linux.

I don't think people who use windows are morons. I don't even pity them. I'm not really worried about sticking it to the man. I'm no crazy linux guru. Best of my understanding, the only place it seriously lacks is in video gaming... but I don't play video games.

Now, maybe someone could create a knoppix type distro that has some super cool video game that only works on linux. It might work as an inroad into the gaming market.

I think we need better, faster, cheaper connectivity options. I'll buy a new pda when pdas become small palmtops with fast, CHEAP wireless and tons of storage for my music. The storage part looks feasible now... so we just need way better connectivity. Seeing as you can't FIND a good cellphone company as it is, I don't see a serious wireless access option coming along any time soon. C'mon, streaming internet radio and complete mp3 library in one device would be pretty wicked if I don't have to mortgage my house to pay the wireless bill.
