Freedom of Speach does not mean freedom to be a giant ass.

There are always consequences for exercising your freedoms. If there weren't then people would be running around causing mahem and destruction 24/7.
There always needs to be a ballance, but that balance needs to tipped somewhat in favor towards the people else the government will run right over the little guy.
I loved playing Goldeneye, it was by far the best FPS of the day, but I always hated split screen.
Cramed together on one couch, with a little 9% view of the world, at less than TV resolutions, and the fact that the others could cheat by looking at the screen made for a misserable experience.
Wide screen 1080p TVs help, but it still sucks. Consoles would do well to update their graphic cards so that they can support 4 seperate screens or at least 2. With as cheap as TV's and monitors are these days and the graphic cards to drive them, they are going to get rolled when console games go back to the PC with it's massive hardware specs.
The excuses by developers for widely varrying PC hardware are dead, Valve is a strong argument for that.
Throw together a hex coure machine with a chunk of ram, four monitors, four controller set ups, and a decent video card and it could run four copies of a game at the same time.
stop watching red dawn and start reading your history books, you dumbass. spain, italy, germany: fascism was a nationalist, corporatist movement
Right back at you shit for brains.
Fascism (pronounced/fæzm/) is a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology.[1][2][3][4] Fascists seek to organize a nation according to corporatist perspectives, values, and systems, including the political system and the economy.
Formal corporatist models are based upon the contract of corporate groups, such as agricultural, business, ethnic, labor, military, patronage, scientific, or religious affiliations, into a collective body
I can read wikipedia too. Of course after perusing the section of Fascism nowhere did it say anything about wraping myself in the American flag or watching NRA masterbation movies like Red Dawn.
I was looking Thing-o-matic and Reprap, both can produce a number of their own components. Each group have stated they are working in two directions to make them able to self replicate. The first is simply expanded what they number of things they can make and the second would be to simplify the design as much as possible to make the first goal easier to reach.
Reprap has a secondary project called Repstrap, which is pretty much a "good enough" design made from scrap parts and easily made on conventional tools. The idea is you build a temporary one that will last just long enough to help you make the more finished parts you need for the Reprap.
The idea being that you go on to build better parts with each iteration. Seems that most of the people's project sites have built 2-3 of the machines, using the latest ones for precision work and the older ones just to help crank out parts.
Pretty exciting stuff!
Will nobody rid us of these lawyer politicians, whose only understanding of communication is how it can be used to control others? For countless millenia, these fools have been holding back humanity, calling themselves priests, or the aristocracy, or the upper class, or whatever. Enough! Can we not have a "normal people's congress" on the internet or something. They want to control the internet? I say let the internet control them.
Considering we can barely get people to go vote, much less drag the political elite from their homes and kill them in the streets, I'd say the answer to the question is probably "no"
It would be nice if the world leaders were people who could do the job, but didn't neccessarily want the job.
As long as there are people their will always being those who try to control others.
But you act as if no one else can open a store again once they are all gone.
A true monopoly is one where no one else is even allowed into the market, such as our crapy phone, cable, and power systems, which are backed by the force of law, or in situations where the last one standing can prevent anyone else from competing.
That is not the case in retail.
If Walmart manages to wipe out everyone else and then starts jacking up the prices, competitors will start springing up all over the place with time forcing them to either become the price leader once again or be wiped out themselves.
Let me run right down and pick something up from my local bookstore.....oh wait there isn't a local book store because I'm military deployed in the middle of nowhere.
Even back home going to the bookstore means driving half way across town.. I consider the traffic part of the "crappy" experience of buying local along with the lack of selection, the line I have to stand in to by the book, and the musac I have to listen to.
It's a dead argument anyway, I've bought a Kindle and I'm hooked. So the local bookstore as well as the Amazon hard copy book section is pretty much dead to me. In the past two months I've "purchased" and read nearly 70 books. Prices ranging from zero all the way up to about $10 and had them delivered within minutes.
The only downside so far has been the destruction of my first Kindle in my backpack. (The corner of a table caught it square in the middle of the screen.) The second one was bought along with a cover and a armored storage box.
The fact that you got moded to 5 shows how dumb everyone around here is.
Each version of fascism that has popped up in modern history began as a politcal / labor movement.
Rednecks out playing in the woods with guns hardly inspires of that.
Now tearing down a fascist government or any other form of repressive government that doesn't collapse under it's own incompetence usually begins with a bunch of heavily armed partisans.
I certainly don't miss the overpriced service provided by ISPs in the UK. Unless you were within a few blocks of the highstreet, the bandwidth and latency were horrible (in the several towns and villages I lived in).
I'm certain there is a special place in Hell reserved just for BT employees.
I think Arnold had it right when he was talking to himself. "Get your ass to Mars...get your ass to Mars...get your ass to Mars...get your ass to Mars......
Anyplace really would be fine. Lagrange points, the moon, an asteroid I don't give a shit anymore. Pick a destination and let's hit the road. NASA has been like a WOW gamer shut-in for the last few years. Sure they've made a lot of friends, got some real good screen shots, and some phat loot, but they haven't done much of anything else in the really real world.
Send astronauts, robots(not just 1 or 2 little ones, try 100's), or go colonial and send religious fanatics, criminals, etc. Let's get going!
You are absolutely correct. The politicians that are supporting the scientists are saying that. Of course you don't have to actually be the one whpulled the trigger to be convicted for murder.
A similar thing is going on with the "climate gate" crap on both sides of the argument.
All I want to see is a very PUBLIC top to bottom review of all the data and the science, and then corrections made to the shady or just simply incorrect methods that were employed. Once all that is done, then we can start talking about the policy. Until then it is just a bunch of political posturing by all parties involved.
There had better be a damn good reason and some solid evidence of malfeasance before such "probing" is initiated.
I would think a couple of trillion reasons why a probe should be initiated.
Scientists: "OMFG the sky is falling!
The Public:What was that?
Scientists:THE SKY IS FALLING!
The Public: "Ok you have our attention what needs to be done?
Scientists:Turn over power and ALOT of money to the government (not just your government but to the UN) to fix everything"
The Public:"Ok if its as bad as you say it is we've got to do something so just let me see your data and your method and we'll get right on it.
Scientists:"well errrr...about that data you see we don't actually have the original data any more we sort of deleted it, but we have this other data. It's sort of been massaged, not in any sort of pushing a political agenda sort of way but in a mostly honest in a good intentions sort of way......ANY WHO, tell you what you just sign right here and we'll get things going once the check clears, because of the you know the whole sky is falling thing, and don't worry about those emails you wouldn't get them anyway since they are just a bunch of you know science jokes."
The Public: Ehhh? Tell you what, how about we think about it and we'll get back to you.
Scientists: "What more proof do you want we said the "Sky is falling" three times!"
The Public:"Now we are definitely not buying what you are selling.
Scientists:"Deniers, racists....feeling guilt yet?
The Public:Walks out on the conversation.
Uh that's like saying that I should have to pay for other people's drug habit or covering the medical expenses for the morbidly obese that can't say no to an all you can eat buffet.
Oh wait I'm going to be paying for those in the near future too!
I just moved to Florida from England and bought a house there. My realtor was a little confused when at the top of my list was FIOS service. I explained what it was and made sure she understood that I was absolutely not interested in any houses that didn't have access to it. No FIOS no deal. Turns out I'm hardly the first, nearly every owner I talked was asked the FIOS question by other buyers, many of which never came back for a second look.
Lucky for me the house that I liked best had it.
No phone, no cable, no satellite. Now if Netflix would expand their streaming to all of their inventory and the news sites would stop just posting clips I would be able for the first time be able to say that I was 100% satisfield with my "TV" service.
"Our" mandatory taxes, that's a laugh. I'm one of a handfull of the guys that work that actually pays taxes. Everyone else qualifies for the "breeder" refund, aka parents and get more back than they pay in.
I'm more than a little upset with the current situation. I hardly qualify as "wealthy" and I'm getting hammered with State and Federal taxes because I'm single with no kids, and now I'm being told that I owe even more by our President in the name of Social Justice. It pisses me off to no end.
I would vote for any politician that would give me the option of picking on where my taxes go.
Yes we can. He throws NASA a twenty in terms of money while at the same time backing up a dump truck full of cash to pour in the welfare crowd's pocket.
I would be screaming less at my Congressman if he voted for a 1.5 trillion increase in NASA's budget (I would still be screaming at him) since it would at least increase our access to space rather than just continue to support the ever growing numbers of useless people on planet Earth.
I would have also rather have seen both the Iraq and Afgan wars never happend (1 nuke each would have been sufficeint and cost effective for the problem), that too would have paid for a new ship for a moon/mars trip and a moon base.
I used to live right next door to Tehachapi pass, home of the largest windfarm in the west. The wind was never anything but reliable. You don't invest millions of dollars in windmills unless you put them some place where the wind blows more often than not. You could count on both hands the number of days throughout the year where the wind wasn't blowing. Sure you might not know what the exact speed of the wind was going to be at a given time, but that didn't really ever make much of a difference since they just simply added more wind mills to get the peak output they were wanting.
I've been living and working on Air Force bases for the last 15 years. People in the industry know how to find and take advantage of wind conditions as they are absolutley critical to airfield operations both in runway placement as well as ambient wind speeds that assist in the takeoff and landing of aircraft. This has been going on for nearly a century, so I think it is safe to say that the guys spending the big bucks on windfarms know what they are doing.
The down time excuse are pretty weak at best, and are usually held up by the NIMBY crowd.
Alot of industries do this. Especially so when their product is edging closer to becoming a commodity, ie something that can be supplied from just about any source and it will satisfy a need. It is a marketing strategy to maintain the "quality and uniqueness of their product. (AKA Bullshit)
Apple fan boys a side, you, me, and just about anyone else these days can pretty much go out and buy a computer or hand held based purely on specs from just about any manufacturer and end up with a fairly satisfying device. This scares the pants of manufactures since the premium markup (100-1000%) they've enjoyed for years tanks and end up looking like grocery store mark ups on milk. (Less than 10%)
In another 5-10 years when you can have an entire computer on a single chip, the transition to a commodity will be complete and companies like Apple, Dell, Asus, ATI, Nvidia etc that don't come up with some sort of niche service will die out and get swallowed up by the likes of Wal-Mart, Tesco, Coscos.
In other news, China is also competing for oil, steel, and hair care products....G7 nations are in a panic and the world economy is probably going to implode and civilization as we know it will end at midnight tonight.
Check back tomorrow for all the details as this exclusive story unfolds.
I lived through the '60s and '70s, through COINTELPRO [wikipedia.org], and through Wstergate [wikipedia.org]. Did you or were you too young, not born yet?
You are full of it. Your Yahoo profile shows you to be 44. You didn't live through those times any more than I did. You were eight years old at the end of COINTELPRO and 9 when WATERGATE happened.

Bitching loudly about everything and trying to control what everyone else does does not make you an environmental saint.
We'd already have big solar plants out in the desert if the green crowd would quit suing to shut them down in order to protect the desert.
