I loved playing Descent. We had our first LAN party back in the day with that game.

  2. From Direct experience: on Recommendations for Cellular Signal Repeaters? · · Score: 1

Speaking from a sales and Installation experience, the JDTeck at http://www.jdteck.com/ line of Active Cellular repeters is the best bang for the buck. $695 retail will get you the JD65-XT which is a full-duplex active repeater, allowing up to 20 simultaneous calls. I have installed 3 of these units for various customers and have had excellent results.

When I call to order one they ask the Zip and carrier and will do a tower location to find the best frequency for you and send it along. It is a full kit with a flat panel antenna for 1900 (PCS) kits or a directional Yagi for other frequencies.

Keep in mind I set these up in a rural environment with distance to tower being 3-6 miles. But this sounds like it would do the trick for you.

Here are links to BOTH phones on AT&T's site:

Siemens S46 and the Sony Ericsson t62u

They have not discontinued that feature. Also you may wish to call 611 or 1-800-888-7600 and ask one of the CS reps about the Multi-Band plans.

For someone who sounds very frustrated, it doesn't seem like you have _really_ researched the problem.

WRONG! There are three phones currently available that have BOTH GSM and TDMA! Actually two of them even include analog AMPS. They are: The Sony-Ericsson T62u - GSM 850/1900 w/GPRS TDMA 800/1900 AMPS 800 The Nokia 6340i - GSM 850/1900 TDMA 800/1900 AMPS 800 and The Siemens S46 - GSM 900/1900 w/GRPS TDMA 800/1900 So yes, there are ways to have your cake and eat it too, with GSM and TDMA. These phones are known as GAIT phones, and will give you the best coverage possible. Currently AT&T Wireless only sells the SOny t62u and the Siemens s46. Cingular sells the 6340i. If there are any more questions feel free to ask.

Exactly!! Yet I get modded down when I say it. Also what that article doesn't say is that counts all the revisions, and doesn't give a TRUE number of unique downloads. There have been so many revisions, and forced upgrades to the KaZaa system that their unique users is FAR less. Plus you also have to factor in repeat downloads (poor schmucks who downloaded bad stuff off of KaZaa and had to reformat/reinstall because of it) I found IRC well before P2P was in its beginning stages, and found it very easy to use. When KaZaa came out, I tried it, and didn't like it (adware, spyware, malware). I also tried Kazaa Lite, and didn't like that much either. I could get exactly what I wanted without having to d/l it twice, even three times to get the quality and even the correct thing sometimes. I guess I must have offended some KaZaa users out there. Oh well, the program is still worthless in my eyes.

It may be the most downloaded program, but it's absolutely worthless to me. I'd rather use IRC and not worry as much about the quality of my downloads, and benjamin, if y'all can remember that big deal.

  9. Re:range? on WiFi Triangulation · · Score: 2, Informative

The reason your school network fails at such a low range is because of sub-standard installation. They are most likely using the "rubber duck" antennas that came with the APs and, probably placed them in an area that is behind rows of steel lockers on more than one side. A couple of omnidirectional dome antennas installed in the ceilings in strategic points throught the school, and you'll get an awesome signal form anywhere. As far as the supermarkets having range issues, I seriously doubt they'll have any problems. The next time you go to a supermarket look around. What do you see? OPEN SPACE! The only walls in there are the 7½' aisles. With 12' and higher ceilings, all they will need are three moderately high db gain 120 antennas and they'll have the whole store getting signal strength like you were sitting next to your AP at home. And who says that they'll go for 11b when most won't be implementing this type of service for at _least_ 2-3 years (In the US anyway).

Because they use chalk to make a )( symbol to designate an open AP.

As a sidenote, Schlotsky's restaraunts put up little plaques near the entrances to their stores with the open AP symbol. Such a nice thing to see, rather than the money hungry Starbucks shops charging by the minute for access.
