I seriously doubt it would be that fast. Even though, I am just hoping it is hi-tech enough to make the cool bepp and boop sounds like the Priceline Supercomputer does in the commercials. Does anyone know how many Teraflops teh Priceline Supercomputer is? Or is it faster than we can even measure?
You are correct. I like to either lick the chassis and keep my tongue touching, or keep my nipple pressed against the chassis while I am installing/removing cards.
Don't argue with their logic! There is none! It's for the same reason many of them think LP's sound better than modern media. They might, but it is because they distort sound somewhat, providing a little "Warmer" sound. They sound different, and one may like the different sound, but it is hard to argue that it is "better".
I would think audiophiles would be puking their guts out screaming bloody mary between puke-vapored breaths.
Most people that are really anal about sound(not me, BTW), would tell you to get as far away from things like your computer as possible. True that, there is a lot of RF emissions going on inside that little box.
Of course, these are the same people that argue that speaker wire void of oxygen sounds better. I think many of them are full of shit in some respects, as the placebo effect convinces them that it sounds better. I could be wrong though. I just know some of them claim to hear things that humans can't hear (i.e., outside of our hearing spectrum).
For a good laugh, wade through a few of the audiophile newsgroups on google. You will see what I am talking about. They are so completely anal I think it is funny.
That's why I wish the Windows version of Word was like the Mac (OS X) version. It saves everything in RTF format by default, which everything can read.
Oh, Vantive. Cursed be thy name for thou speaketh of thee unholy putred stench that is Vantive. Ne'er hast a poorer piece of shit software been made, Amen.
o better application integration, for that hyped story called Web services.
o a variety of new players offering integrated voice and data to even the smallest of businesses.
o the rise of corporate wireless networks.
o The dominant theme will be the continuing battle between evil and evil as
Microsoft expands its.NET strategy and the rest of the industry responds.

probably be easy to label 2002 as the Year of XML.
o Look for emergence of an XML industry, which is to say a rash of new
startups built around XML services.
o KnowNow is a new company backed by Kleiner Perkins, the big venture firm,
and represents the resurgence of venture capital in 2002.
o other hot IPO areas besides XML will include security (thanks to bin

niche called rich media.

o And Microsoft will make itself a part of every deal, everywhere, no
matter what happens with its anti-trust case.
You remember correctly, but you must also remember that most of these scanners were parallel port scanners. If you scanned very quickly at all or slipped a little while scanning, too bad. You can only shove so much data down that pipe at one instance. In theory, it worked ok, but in practice I was never really satisfied.
You are right about that. It is harder than you think to move at a perfectly constant speed so the image scans in without stretch or distortion. Not to mention, scanning to 4" wide swaths and stitching them together (even with good software) takes time. I had two of these scanners, and while they were neat I certainly hope I never have to use one again. If there was any demand for them, they would be plentiful. Fortunately, good ol' supply and demand took care of them and they are now happily scanning our landfills.
Do you have any proof? I get a LOT of spam that is in chinese or japanese (i don't know which, i don't have those character sets loaded). Are you telling me an american sends email in chinese to a chinese relay?
I think that happens a lot in China! I go this one email, and it said that people steal your livers and you wake up in a bath full of ice without a liver! maybe they are needing them for their computers? i can forward it to you if you need it!

I'm with you. Viva la Old School! I still leave the power cord in, I think it has magical powers. I was also taught that it grounds the system.
screw this soft-off crap.
Yes, this AC is correct. Remember Homer's Mr. Plow song?
"Mr. Plow, that's my name, that name again is Mr. Plow!"

Notepad also does not read unix-style line feeds correcty, while wordpad does. Quite an annoyance.

God I hate Vantive.
I want an FM Tuner and an AM tuner. I like to listen to talk radio on the AM dial. To me, AM radio is more important than FM.
Interesting. I did not know that.
Damn. I'll even sumarize for the lazy:

You of course are right. I was thinking Japan.
nice try troll. but i refuse to bite. with a slashdot id of 30003 you had damn well better know where it comes from.
here's his 2002 predictions.
It might happen after someone at slashdot posts information that Usenet is 95% warez/movies! Thanks for notifying the evil doers, buddy.
Yeah, but I always found IRC much better than the P2P programs for big downloads. I know all the P2P apps that exist.
Because neccesity is the mother of invention.
I know. Everybody and their dog has broadband and is downloading gigs and gigs of movies off IRC servs with DCC!
Hesus, most people don't even know what IRC is! Is there anywhere else to go for movies?

*Ding* *Ding* *Ding* CONGRATULATIONS! You are the 500th poster to recommend the same thing! You have won a prize! What do we have for him, Johnny?
