This is an excellent idea. Any PDA that's actually being used is pretty much always on the "move." Kinetic power would be a great way to charge the batteries while you're off the cradle/power supply.
Then it does a Google web search for somecompany and a randomly chosen topic of potential interest
But

Unfortunatly (?) I don't have a "Clue"Cat so I'm not sure of the output from CueHack. Can anyone comment on this?
The only reason I bring it up is that I've seen other sites shut down because of fun uses of Google search results due to the TOS.
It's amazing. The trolls have actually finally worn off on the slashdot editors. What an amazing, lame write up on a non-story. Hurray for slashdot it's fallen just a bit further down the shitter.
It's a slippery slope. Once you start down that path, companies don't like turning back. They may not be selling your personal info to companies, but there's no reason to believe that they won't if things "get tough."
I read an article online somewhere (anyone know the one?) that had a good quote from the president of Digitial Convergence, makers of CueCat...
He basicly said "We were really suprised how much of a following we have with the geek crowd. We're really happy we've got such an 'underground' following." or some such.
So, to anyone, reading the article that's not really familure with the CueCat's past, thinks that DC is actually encouraging hackers to find alternative uses for their product.
I too have to agree with this. Add my name to the mix. There is NO meat on the article. Where is the proof that we evolved from bacteria? Just because we have genes? We've known we've had DNA for many years...how does this now proove without a doubt that we evolved from the same thing that probably gave me my cold today.
This is, without a doubt a sensative issue, but this article is NOT a good place to start any discussion.
I know that this technique is possible. I've read about it in at least 1 if not more college physics textbooks, but this site smells. The images, especially that last one, is iffy at best. I have a sinking feeling that our esteemed/. editors got take for a ride on this one.
as for the banner-ad filled page, I've heard of the domain name game going this route. You register a domain name through one of those cut-rate places and then, when your site is popular, they yank the name from you...

Doh! that's what I get for browsing at +1
:)
And not having enough coffee.
My point is that other websites that have used Google to do fun or interesting things have been asked to stop.
This isn't a question of using Goggle, but a question of google asking them to stop. That was my point. I'm sorry if this wasn't more clear.
K5 is one example. Unfortunatly, I don't remember what it was they did (some sort of search engine battle or some such?)

this is without a doubt the biggest troll I've ever seen on /. jamie, you are a troll.
mod me to obvlivion if you want, but this is pathetic.
Hurray for Cliff Stoll. His (latest?) book: High Tech Heretic" is an excellent example of this line of though, one with which I completely agree.

haha that's good. :)
how is this "abuse" you stupid fuck?
damn, it looks like the content of my post was already posted by a number of others (scroll up). Oh well, at least I know I'm not that wrong :)
It just goes to show that pr0n is driving many industries.
they've been at the forefront of DVD, wireless internet, etc. pushing the envelope on all of them.
what a great win, especially against doubleclick.
I couldn't resist this...
:)
From the translation (Japanese to English) comes the following phrase:
"...with also tomorrow you try the Linux for the PS2 it can put out..."
Wow linux on the ps2 and it puts out?! Sign me up baby
Uhm. The RIAA makes no claims about DeCSS... Last time I checked, DeCSS is the MPAA's problem.

Very frustrating.

What I find most funny about this article is the following quote:
And the CCS servers are frequent targets of attack; on Christmas Eve Powell opened Outlook Express to find he'd been mail-bombed with 15,000 messages
Uhm. Outlook Express? What, are you kidding me?

I'm getting a lot of php errors on that site. I hope it's just a temporary thing.
I have no idea what happened to them. they just up and disappeared. I used to chat with the admin, sedriss, and then *poof* he was gone. Very strange.
jesus fucking christ.
why don't people read the fucking moderator rules.
whomever rated this "overrated" is obviously a fucking moron.
there is a "post at 2" threshold you stupid fuck. if you are above a certain level your posts default to 2. get a fucking clue

A decent troll on your part, but not good enough. It's still obvious.
/too/ believable.
If perhaps you threw less "catch phrases" in there it might have gotten by. Your bit of fiction is
thank you, pull through.
