Red Hat just dropped the new ACPI support from their latest Beta, Phoebe 3, because they didn't feel it was stable enough. I'll be curious to see what the Mandrake people do. Have they managed to fix it while RedHat couldn't, or are they just going to release it without sufficient QA?

Indian telemarketers may laugh at the phrase, but why would they want their target audience to be a group who put in the extra effort to tell their country that they have no interest in buying products over the phone?

As for US companies using the DNC list, expecting to weasel out of the fines (they're not lawsuits), I think this law will make it rather pointless. Part of this law requires company to not block their phone numbers from caller id units. Within 24 hours of calling people on the DNC list, I'm sure the FTC will be paying them a visit. How many visits do you think it will take before they're informed that they better stop having clerical errors?

  6. Re:I don't like this. on Red Hat Announces Product EOL Calendar · · Score: 1

One reason I can see to quickly phaze out 8.0 is that the 2.6 kernel is on its way. I think RedHat wisely wants to avoid the need to support older kernels.

Also, although RH8 will only be supported for 12 months, RedHat says 12mos is the minimum length of support. Popular distros will be supported longer.

My guess is that you'll see EOL dates expand again once they clear the dead weight of supporting several key packages: kernel-2.2.x kernel-2.4.x gnome-x-1-x kde-x-2-x gcc-2.x etc

Why not write on a notepad at the meeting, then come back and scan the notes into your desktop/laptop with your $100 scanner?

I agree that the tablet is a really neat idea, but not at its cost. When it gets down to sub-$500, and has a 10hr+ battery life, then it will take over.
