    I'm guessing Debian blew it with the long delay's between releases.

    Debian blew it by treating x86 with the same priority as some shitty sparc or ARM that noone uses.
    It's a bunch of wankers trying soooo hard to be multiplatform, while most of linux users have never used anything outside x86.
    Most of the slowness of Debian is directly attributable to this.
