Having owned a Powerbook G4 for almost a year now, I have no regrets. It's still going to take a while for them to get the kinks out. It's gonna be great when the 2nd revision comes out though!

I refer you to the "it's almost the same enclosure as years of Powerbooks, all that hinge stuff is fixed" vs. "new architecture d00d, everything inside has changed, can't you see that????" from previous posts. Personally, I reckon it's a sweet machine and will avoid any major architecture problems, although I reckon some muppet will manage to scratch/break the camera and blame the latch or something to do with opening the laptop. Somehow. :) Buying decision still comes down to whether your apps have been... universalised? dualed? chi balanced?

As an aside... almost first post, carefully dodging the -1 redundant while stating the obvious, and then getting beaten to the punch by 'f y'all' dude. Life is cruel. :)

  3. Re:Apple please listen...... on OSx86 Shutdown Rumors Explained · · Score: 1

I would *like to* build a PC based OS X machine. I don't have any real problem with Apple hardware, but I would like to have a CHOICE when I do need to add/change some hardware.

You do have a choice. Apple, a company in the market, is offering both an OS and the hardware to run it on. You can choose other OS offerings, and other hardware. Are you really saying, in today's tech climate, that every single OS should be forced to run on every machine, otherwise the OS you choose is somehow forcing you to be 'locked in' against your will?

Until a company starts approaching domination in a particular market (which, let's face it, Apple aren't) then surely they can set the rules for their OS. Whether that's a good idea is a whole different discussion.

Surely now Intel can complete their rebranding... "Intel Incider" ?

I hope someone can get of hold of a new MacBook Pro on demo at an Apple store. It'd be great to hear informal, biased, first-hand responses of how loading a cached application feels a little 'snappier' than on their home DinosaurPowerPC.

I wonder if the up-to-date version of Mac OS X Intel is a bit quicker and more responsive than the previous one?

I'd place good money on there being changes that support the upcoming UK/European version of iTMS rumoured to be announced next week.
