I was pitching for a "insightful speculation on the verge of being offtopic." Not too much time on my hands to formulate my entire stance on the issue.
I do firmly believe that Oracle is now in an unprecedented position, historically.
HP IBM Apple Oracle Microsoft
Only one doesn't have in-house chip manufacturing. And if Oracle makes that long awaited thin client (lower price point than even netbooks) for the enterprise due to this corporate optimization then watch out for sparkles.
It is my firm belief that W7 will not do anything for Microsoft... too little and way too late.
It has definitely hogged the reg hive... I have had to clean up stuff manually... and we are talking about an abnormal amount of keys... megabyte range. Granted this was MSDN version and back in 1999 or so.
Nope I don't think Dia can import those and I never used Visio so much as to make my own predefined shapes with it (knowing it would just "bind" me to the Visio solution.)
Thanks for the reply even though it was tagged offtopic.
Speaking of Visio diagrams... this is a serious question for the ones how actually use it... does it still hog the registry hive with a myriad of keys making the system notably slower?
I haven't used Visio since I got introduced to graphviz. Dia works for the fringe cases that graphviz doesn't so really... what does Visio have that is so "needed" ?
More importantly it will give virus/worm/trojan writers more time to poke a big hole in w7... and for free and from the get go.
So lets say this malware will be at a holding place until w7 goes pay for play... and then whammo... big big trouble.
IMHO the move is idiotic (Microsoft being a for profit organization and all... deferring 1 year of revenue? no not a biggie with stock holders if they have any brains.) no matter how confident they are in their software.
How many of the undersigned truly did want to end women right to vote?
How many of the participants read "End female suffering" ? (Many people do not read the entire word if they think what it is... and they see what they want to see and do things without double checking.)
this just to name a few glaringly obvious cases.
So the test albeit interesting does nothing... things like this should definitely be left to proper statisticians and not to psychology... wrong conclusions will almost always be made otherwise.
What about this one... "End computer hacking now!" it should be more clear why it is a very flawed proposition:-D
anybody needing XP due to current installed OS, already has an XP license that they have payed for and now Microsoft needs to sell Vista without apparent benefits to this crowd... blatantly double dipping.
I guess I was tagged flamebait... sorry but this ain't no flamebait, it's real.
This way they can charge for more than one license per machine too. Overheard in the latest board meeting... "Milk the customer till they drop... customers are a bunch of idiots in any case... they have no clue what is going on... Microsoft are the ONLY ones who know what computing is about..."
bust isn't Microsoft's Windows being sold as if "grand ma can even use it" all of a sudden one needs to learn how to use a computer... what happened to intuitively poking around and make things work?
I find it VERY ignorant of anyone (including some family members) not having realized that the computer revolution that started in the 80ies is actually something that they need... whether they LIKE it or NOT.
Now a company like Microsoft needs to give incentives to make people use computers? Common... wtf... talk about living under a friggin rock.
If people did not start to use computers by 2000 and they were about 50 then they shouldn't even start now... too much of a culture shock. They have the smart-phones though... thankfully!
IMHO Microsoft is doing worthless pandering about this.
Design by committee is never ever a good thing. You get a product that wants to be everything for everybody and ends up doing stuff with too much compromise instead.
Do one thing and one thing really good and everything else follows.
To counter CFL lamps (Inductive load) one can easily use a reactive load to counter the imbalance... this is a non issue so move along... nothing so see here... and so on.

I'll wager this character "!"
I have a funny remark regarding what Ballmer is doing but my post would be tagged as flamebait, so I'll just write the clencher: Toilet paper.
And if the servers are not melted enough use the "Vixen" voice... it sure will make it more enjoyable to listen to it :-D
Just pipe the script into Cepstral and be done!

It has many voices and sounds very good IMHO.

IMHO Some things should be outlawed.

Yes it stinks of hubris.
I believe your sigma-field is not complete...

But IANA* ~CS
Well I found the argument obvious...
anybody needing XP due to current installed OS, already has an XP license that they have payed for and now Microsoft needs to sell Vista without apparent benefits to this crowd... blatantly double dipping.

Then I argue that your are using trivial applications and do not need a new OS in the first place. Which is fine.
done by companies that went bust and do not have any new versions for w7 nor will ever have?
Finally Microsoft's way of doing business is backfiring at them "big time" albeit by proxy.
With current climate (since 2003 or so) there is no chance this will change for the better.
The sooner Windows solutions are dumped for something that does not depend on any one particular company or companies the better.
Question-OTD: How does it feel having your data taken hostage by the programs/hardware you rely upon?
This way they can charge for more than one license per machine too. Overheard in the latest board meeting... "Milk the customer till they drop... customers are a bunch of idiots in any case... they have no clue what is going on... Microsoft are the ONLY ones who know what computing is about..."
It actually says Hard X-ray's

This announcement believe it or not has actually made my day. It will 100% spur innovation like the original Red Lasers did.
No it was definitely more in the lines of
"fsck me sideways!"
Note to self: Do not post patented Microsoft code.
Here is a solution to your problem
compile (non optimized) the following program.
void main()
{
while(1) {
}
}
and run it for each of your processor cores.
PS Your electrical bill might be slightly higher going forward.
This solution is provided to you AS IS and without charge. You can copy the code and sell it if you want too. I wash my hands of it.

Troll??? I can see it being flamebait... but troll??? Oh right this is slashdot... 95% haven't had any... sorry.
