Over the next year we are going to all VoIP for all users that are not in our call center. We currently have about 75 phones in use. Pretty cool getting your Voice mail as a wav file in your email.
This is very cool but it not like yahoo can even compete with google. Google's search, toolbar, and news is still better. Yahoo needs to improve there page layout to expand with the size of your screen. Half of the screen is white space on yahoo's news area. We run high resolutions so that we can see more without having to scroll.
I agree. I hate phones and there is usually no proper storage system.
I think in business there are two main reason people communicate; sales and support. For Sales you would have a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system or software. The Support side you are also going to have some type of system to help manage everything. The information should be stored in these systems. These systems have been around for many years before email and faxes were commonly used.
Email is a quick and dirty form of communication. The archival of email allows us to CYA.
The interesting thing with the Internet and Technology is everyone expects it to work all the time. Scenario: Johnny can't get a pdf purchase order to a client for 48 hours because the mail server is backed-up with a virus. Johnny can't understand why it is not getting to the client. What if: Johnny print's out a 1 cent copy of the order and puts into a FedEx package($8), overnight. Now if it gets lost because the Plane blows up due to a leaky fuel line. Does Johnny remail the order? Damn right. He knows shit happens. Why can't people have similar expectations of technology? ~Adapt or die~ WeRD!
It looks sweet but is it going to break constantly like my PS2. Sony also claimed no responsibility for the crappy hardware they put into them. Makes me want to buy an Xbox.
Isaac Newton was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics which he started in 1669. This is the same Chair (sorry couldn't resist) that Stephen Hawking now occupies. I seriously doubt this position is for teaching classes. I've never met a PHD that wasn't eccentric!
If the information is important they should pick up the phone. Email is very casual. Calling someone has much more of a personal touch. I also think it's easier to develop a relationship with your customers over the phone.
I wanted to flame our employees after they complained about not being to do business during Slammer worm. Hello, we have fax machines.
One consequence of the ubiquitous use of technology is people get lazy. God forbid they use their Egghead and find another way to work.
The Citadel, a military college, has always used Netscape. When I left about 9 months ago they were testing Mozilla more as a browser. Most of the Professors use Netscape mail. I would be surprised if they switched over but you never know.
The two are basically the same they just look a little different.
I'm a big fan. But I still use IE. Old habits die hard!
One of my responsiblities is software librarian. I have already had requests for employees to have Office installed at home. Now I will have to support employees home computers because that can't run office or are having problems.
In my experience we have had more problems with several of our intranet sites then internet sites. They just update the content on the internet websites whereas the intranet site they are always trying to make enhancements.
I work at a College in South Carolina and we have been doing for over two years. I think its a good thing. You don't go to college to download freaking movies and mp3z. P2P hogs up too much of the bandwidth. I tell students to share with friends because most of the music they would want will be sitting on someone else's hard drive. I remember when most people didn't even know what mp3s where. I don't like it now that any asshole and his brother can get online and download 700mb movies and hog all the bandwidth.
Its straightforward in the since the you log onto your phone so your number follows you whereever you are. No need for a static ip.

I've got two bits that says there will be a Chinese buffet on the moon within three years.

I have a friend that was one of the people running tests again the models of the communication networks that are being used in the Middle East.
