Handling money has real costs, theft, paying someone to take it to the bank. The extra time it takes to make and handle change. Stocking change to each register.
How does going into debt make it worth it over a cheap car?
What are the numbers here? I see good cars with no repair needed right away for $5k. I plan to buy a house in cash eventually, I will rent a tiny place until then. I might just continue to rent the tiny place though, probably cheaper than the taxes on a house anyway.
Metal prices do not require it to be extracted or refined, just new supplies found to have some impact. I was indeed exaggerating, but the point is disconnecting the money supply from the economy is not without any drawbacks.
Then I cancel it and move to another. Credit card companies need some percent of their clients to pay off the loans, to raise the value of the debt they hold and sell. I fill that role.
These people are not slipping up, they are spending money they do not have. Even if I maxed out my credit, my savings more than covers it. That is intentional.
Precious metals are not the ideal either. If your neighbor finds a huge new mine, your savings can lose half their value over night. No one wants that. If I find a new use for that metal, your savings might double over night. No one in their right mind wants that either, for anyone but themselves.
I love taking advantage of credit card companies. Free 28 day loans and 1% back are great. I never buy anything on the card that I could not write a check for anyway, so I don't pay interest. I used to go to a mechanic that offered 2% off if you payed cash, so I did there.
Many people like me are too used to getting either a discount or free short term loans to go back to using only cash.
BULLSHIT! They just could not get easy loans. People have not changed that much. Many folks wasted their money at the bar, or on gambling or onions for their belts.
Your post is classic it was better $WHENEVER bullshit. The reality is a TV cost as much as a car and their cars all sucked. So they had to keep buying them over and over. Since at the time consumer credit was in its infancy they were forced to save money for another car to get to work.
In my state that would be another $25, which you will not get back.
Class actions are perfect for this, otherwise companies would be sure to steal just a low enough number that most people would not bother to file suit.
How would you get screwed by lawyers? They get the money for their work. Why would I go to court and lose even more money? Why would I lose $100 to company A then lose another $200 in lost wages? I can't ever break even on that. I would be ahead by eating the $100 and the company would never be punished.
My mother does not have a basement nor have I ever lived in her home since graduating high school.
Not generally in small claims court. I believe most states limit damages to actual damages in small claims courts. You are generally also not allowed to have a lawyer.
This is a private business. They can do what they like.
I too hope there is no such law, I support her right to say it on every street corner. Just like I support youtubes right to not have to carry this filth.
The point is to punish the company doing harm. If the lawyers could not make money doing it they would not. If I take a day off for small claims court I will probably lose more money than the court awards me. I would rather know the company had to pay out for its transgressions then let them get away with it, even if I do not get the money.
So then I lose even more money by taking day off? That seems even worse. Why should I lose my $100 then be forced to lose another $200 to try and get back the $100?
Surely you can see how that would mean most people would not bother and AT&T could just rip off people without any punishment.
I do not think the arguments are over those points. The real argument should corporations be artificial people with all the rights of natural people. I think many reasonable folks could conclude that they should not have all the rights of natural people. Even if they might have some subset of those rights.
That is not legal anymore, but did indeed occur in the past.
$10k is not a brief case of money. It is a couple small stacks of $100s.
They could not use whatever previous method of transportation they used until they had $5k?
So do store clerks.
Handling money has real costs, theft, paying someone to take it to the bank. The extra time it takes to make and handle change. Stocking change to each register.
So cancel it and move to another bank and card.
The moment I get charged a fee they will not eat, I am switching cards.

What does that have to do with it?
I can either get 1% back and be out 2% or pay cash and be out the whole 3%.

I pay it off each week.
These people are not slipping up, they are spending money they do not have. Even if I maxed out my credit, my savings more than covers it. That is intentional.
I pay far in advance of the due date. I pay it off each week.
So even if they did credit me late they would have to be 3 weeks late. I am not lucky nor naive, just very cautious.

Can we at least all agree that checks should be banned in the express lane? Coupons too.
Does it pay 1% back yet?

That seems like less harm then depriving the rightful owners of the code access, the american taxpayer.

Serious question:
How would such a society handle the common social problems of our age? The elderly, the infirm, etc?
You can leave your country just like you can leave your job. Both are painful, and you may not actually have lots of other available options.
I forgot to add in fees.
