    I'm not sure that this is the best thing to do to get off of such things given how many basic problems Saudi Arabia has and how many fairly cheap things could be done to improve the education and general productivity of most of the population.

    The last thing the Saudis want is an educated populace. This is about the super rich blowing their money for fun, they do not care about the general population one iota.

    If this is your one way commute, so 70 miles total, you are spending over an hour a day in your car without pay. Why in the hell would you waste your life like that?

    Some batteries will cycle millions of times. You have to pick batteries suited to your application. In this case niether mass nor volume is a factor but price and cycles are. Cheap lead acid is there fore the way to go. Depending on price it might be worth doing. Far better to spend the money on PV panels or a turbine and sell that power then buy power when it is not enough though.

    Too bad they are a bitch to make. Digging them up is one idea, but it releases a lot of stored carbon dioxide and burning the stuff in ICEs is pretty inefficient.

    You would need something like RTKernel to give you a RTOS on DOS. It makes no such guarantees. Like you said, use the OS only for storage access.

    What needs to be ported?
    It is already running linux the kernel, how hard can it be to run Debian-arm on it? I would imagine if you are ok just accessing it via vlc and running the same kernel you could do it now. Just like lots of people are doing on Android phones.

    They rent the DVD, which gives them limited time ownership of it and they rent the player. Then this renter using his rented property streams the video from the disk to himself.

    Considering both of use are using our property, his rented mine owned I fail to see how this is any different.

    I pretty much have this. The HTPC in my living room has rips of every DVD I own. You can then stream these via vlc or copy them to any other machine in the house and watch them that way.

    I guess I am breaking the law.

    You could get netflix HD for starters. I also use it for skype in HD or as close as skype can get, uploading videos, sharing linux isos, all kinds of stuff. I don't have cable tv.

    Considering everyone I know who has FIOS is damn happy with it, I doubt it.

    The service really is great. I left TWC for them and now due to the competition TWC has started offering reasonable (above 20Mbps) speeds. Too bad the service is not available everywhere.

    Gasoline probably qualifies as a substance known to cause birth defects and cancer. Evaporation is one disposal method for that too. The solution to pollution is dilution.
