I think the issue is n00bs will try Linux for the first time, fail, and think it's no good. Ubuntu, etc will have to plaster "turn-off SecureBoot" all over their site. Of course, like most BIOSes, it will be poorly translated, and you'll have to hunt all over for the right setting. People are always saying how closed Apple is on this site, but they specifically wrote a BIOS emulator so you could run Win/Linux on a Mac. Apple will be the most open hardware maker after this!
"The first successful commercial GUI product was the Apple Macintosh, which was heavily inspired by PARC's work; Xerox was allowed to buy pre-IPO stock from Apple, in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product."
I wish people would steal from me and offer pre-IPO stock...
Well, MS wasn't 'wrong' in the 80's; Apple just wrote a poor contract that technically allowed them to use a desktop-style OS... after having paid Xerox for it in stock. MS just used shrewd business practices. IMO, they were unethical, but perfectly legal. Samsung, on the other hand, doesn't have such a contract, so I'm not sure how they're going to get away with this. I'd hate to see computing go straight from the MS dark ages to the Android dark ages.
Do you think a run-off election would be better? Say there are six candidates, you vote 6 for who you really want, five for the next guy, etc. The one with the most points wins. I feel like that would make your vote count for more and give third party candidates a better shot.
Actual quote: "The sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever." I don't know what "production phone" means, but the iP4 does have a higher pixel count. A google search reveals the LU1400 is an LG phone. It has a 800 x 480 display while the iPhone 4 has 960 x 640. Looks like Apple wasn't lying.
Where else is there to get tech specs besides marketing materials? You say that like it's an insult. Am I supposed to count the pixels manually? It is Apple's job to put their products in a good light, but they've never lied. I check-out a lot of their claims. Whatever your opinion on what "resolution" means, I can see them not knowing about some LG phone only sold in South Korea. Still, they were not lying.
OS X has been out for over 10 years, and there are a hand-full of trojans - most of which you have to type an admin password to let them run.
There are zero real-world viruses, only a few proof-of-concepts that no one seems to have picked-up on. Researchers seem to be writing more OS X viruses than hackers.
And the Apple fans are the ones drinking the kool-aid?
If this is something MS can do, of course they will do it! Why even ask? The only glimmer of hope is that they're scared by some kind of anti-trust thing.
I've done iOS and android dev work; Apple's tools are much better and more integrated. Obviously, Apple doesn't treat their devs like crap. Xcode is like luxury development.
/. is probably the worst possible site to put that headline.
Who cares? Don't submit to the app store; problem solved...
Fanboi + right == fine with me

Someone has to maintain those terminators...until they can maintain themselves.
You can't stop "rape, pillage and murder with no consequences" with a slashdot post.
Opportunity to use cool Centurion helmet icon.
Become a solider so you can help these things not happen!
How many times do we need to be reminded?

Not going to let Samsung do that, too...
To my phone: Siri, please auto-flame all negative comments about yourself on Slashdot.

User-hostile? Try developing for Android.
If a camera with five Apple-engineered lenses has been available in other phones, then Apple should be suing them over that, too.
The custom lens uses five precision elements to shape incoming light. - http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/camera.html
Fun to play; boring to watch.
Linux has less share, but has viruses.

It's great to emerge from the MS dark-ages.

I imagine it would be incredibly painful to use a desktop application on a tablet
Oh, it is...
He probably meant on a tablet, with limited battery life.
But, I like turtles; what can I do to improve human-turtle relations so codes like this are unnecessary?
